This study defines a new clinically relevant concept of T-cell senescence-mediated inflammatory responses in the pathophysiology of abnormal glucose homeostasis. We also found that T-cell senescence is associated with systemic inflammation and alters hepatic glucose homeostasis. The rational modulation of T-cell senescence would be a promising avenue for the treatment or prevention of diabetes. Intron Retention via Alternative Splicing as a Signature of Aging https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2019/03/intron-retention-via-alternative-splicing-as-a-signature-of-aging/ In recent years researchers have investigated changes in alternative splicing in the context of aging and age-related disease. It is thought to be important in cellular senescence, for example, but that is just one line item in the bigger picture. A given gene can code for multiple different proteins, and alternative splicing is the name given to the processes by which those different proteins are produced. A gene contains discrete DNA sequences called exons and introns, the former passed into the protein production process, and the latter removed during RNA splicing. The canonical protein produced from this genetic blueprint contains all of the exons, joined in sequence, but alternative splicing may drop exons, resulting in a different protein. The balance between the proteins produced from a given gene tends to shift with age. This might be a harmful downstream consequence of underlyi...
We present the case of a 56-year-old female presenting with bilateral foot pain. Imaging reveals symmetrical abductor digiti minimi atrophy associated with bilateral plantar fasciitis. These appearances are well demonstrated on both magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound.

D’Lima, Sang Hak LeeAbstractPurposeSome reports have noted favorable long-term clinical results with milder postoperative arthritic changes after total meniscectomy in symptomatic patients with torn discoid lateral meniscus (DLM). This meta-analysis was conducted to compare the clinical and radiographic results between partial and total meniscectomy in patients with symptomatic DLM.MethodsStudies were included in the meta-analysis if (1) they analysed patients who underwent ar...
The objective of this study was to evaluate the change over time in the number of alternative surgical procedures (meniscectomy and meniscus repair) and regional variation in France using data from the French agency for information on hospital care (ATIH).HypothesisWe hypothesized that the number of meniscectomy procedures will decrease, and the number of repair procedures will increase over time at various healthcare facilities.Patients and methodsBetween 2005 and 2017, the number of hospitalizations in the Medicine-Surgery-Obstetrics wards for meniscectomy (NFFC003 and NFCC004) or meniscus repair (NFEC001 and NFEC002) wa...
DiscussionOur starting hypothesis was confirmed for the complication rate and clinical outcomes. The benefits of dual mobility cups are emphasized. While the indications for TFR are rare, they will likely increase in the coming years.Level of evidence: IV, Retrospective cohort study…
Conclusion: Tacrolimus may be associated with optic neuropathy and PRES at the initial presentation to an ophthalmologist.Case Rep Ophthalmol 2019;10:140 –144
This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effect of folic acid (FA) on diabetic retinopathy (DR) in a genetic mouse model of obese type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). C57BL/KsJ-db/db(db/db) T2D mice were divided into control, FA, metformin (MET), and FA plus MET groups (n = 10/group). Serum levels of glucose, glycated hemoglobin, and insulin were determined weekly. The retinal thickness was measured using optical coherence tomography (OCT) at 4 weeks after treatments. The retinal expression and serum levels of vascular formation, inflammation, and oxidative stress-associated molecules were examined. Our results demonstrated...
Conclusions: Eyes from diabetic patients in the initial stages of DR with different Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study gradings show similar prevalence of SCME and CIME, independent of the severity of the retinopathy. Retinal edema is located mainly in the INL and appears to be mostly extracellular except in the earliest stages of diabetic retinal disease where intracellular edema predominates.Ophthalmic Res
Conclusion: The majority of patients operated for primary RRD achieved a reasonable long-term visual outcome. Notably, female gender was associated with poor visual outcome, indicating a need for closer follow-up.Ophthalmic Res
Conclusions: Baseline DRIL has been shown to be predictive of postoperative visual outcome in patients with iERM, treated with PPV.Ophthalmic Res
