We examined 9293 individuals from the Copenhagen General Population Study using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy measurements of total cholesterol, free- and esterified cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids, and particle concentration. Fourteen subclasses of decreasing size and their lipid constituents were analysed: six subclasses were very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), one intermediate-density lipoprotein (IDL), three low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and four subclasses were high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Remnant lipoproteins were VLDL and IDL combined. Mean nonfasting cholesterol concentration was 72 mg/dL for remnants, 78 mg/dL for LDL, and 71 mg/dL for HDL, equivalent to remnants containing 32% of plasma total cholesterol. Of 14 lipoprotein subclasses, large LDL and IDL were the ones containing most of plasma cholesterol. The plasma concentration of remnant cholesterol was from 54 mg/dL at age 20 to 74 mg/dL at age 60. Corresponding values for LDL cholesterol were from 58 mg/dL to 81 mg/dL. Thus, using direct measurements, one third of total cholesterol in plasma was present in remnant lipoproteins, that is, in the triglyceride-rich lipoproteins IDL and VLDL. The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential analgesic action of 8% capsaicin cream for topical use in patients with myofascial pain syndrome. METHODS: Initially, cream formulations of PLA (Placebo) and CPS (Capsaicin 8%) were developed and approved according to the current requirements of the health authority agency. The 40 participating patients were randomly assigned to the PLA and CPS groups in a double-blind fashion. Before the creams were topically administered, according to the allocation group, the local anesthetic was used for a period of 50minutes directly in the area of interest. The cream was a...

DISCUSSION: We propose the "AD exposome" to comprehensively assess the modifiable environmental factors relevant to genetic underpinnings of cognitive aging and AD. Analysis of endogenous and exogenous environmental factors requires multi-generational consideration of these interactions over age and time (GxExT). New computational approaches to the multi-level complexities may identify accessible interventions for individual brain aging. International collaborations on diverse populations are needed to identify the most relevant exposures over the life course for GxE interactions. PMID: 31519494 [PubMed - as ...

CONCLUSIONS: Epidemiological figures emerging from this study confirm that trends in Lebanon are in line with a global pattern of decreasing age at menarche. Urban-rural differences suggest that higher caloric content of diet and consequent early overweight, more evident in urban areas, are likely determinants of younger menarche. Evidence from this study calls for an urgent implementation of comprehensive multisectoral obesity prevention in children in Lebanon. PMID: 31519350 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Dobrowolski, Per Guldberg, Flemming Güttler, Harvey L. LevyAbstractPhenylketonuria (PKU) is an autosomal recessive inborn error of metabolism caused by pathogenic variants in the phenylalanine hydroxylase gene (PAH). The correlation between genotype and phenotype can be complex and sometimes variable but often very useful for categorizing and predicting dietary tolerance and potential outcome. We reviewed medical records for 367 patients diagnosed wi...

Emerging evidence indicates BMP9 exerts diverse and pleotropic functions during postnatal development and in maintaining tissue homeostasis. However, the expression landsc...
