A Bibliometric Analysis of Study of Associations of Certain Genotypes with the Cardiovascular Form of Diabetic Neuropathy
Biomed Res Int. 2024 Apr 15;2024:6761451. doi: 10.1155/2024/6761451. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTThis bibliometric analysis explores the landscape of research on the associations between specific genotypes and the cardiovascular form of diabetic neuropathy. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a major contributor to premature mortality, primarily due to increased susceptibility to cardiovascular diseases. The global prevalence of DM is rising, with projections indicating further increases. Diabetic neuropathy, a complication of DM, includes the cardiovascular subtype, posing challenges in diagnosis and management. Understanding the gene...

Macrophage polarization: an important role in inflammatory diseases
Front Immunol. 2024 Apr 10;15:1352946. doi: 10.3389/fimmu.2024.1352946. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTMacrophages are crucial cells in the human body's innate immunity and are engaged in a variety of non-inflammatory reactions. Macrophages can develop into two kinds when stimulated by distinct internal environments: pro-inflammatory M1-like macrophages and anti-inflammatory M2-type macrophages. During inflammation, the two kinds of macrophages are activated alternatively, and maintaining a reasonably steady ratio is critical for maintaining homeostasis in vivo. M1 macrophages can induce inflammation, but M2 macrophages suppress...

A low-glucose eating pattern is associated with improvements in glycemic variability among women at risk for postmenopausal breast cancer: an exploratory analysis
CONCLUSION: Low-glucose eating is associated with improvements in glycemic variability, independent of concurrent weight reductions, suggesting it may be beneficial for GV-related disease prevention. Further research in a larger, more diverse sample with poor metabolic health is warranted.Clinical trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03546972.PMID:38660060 | PMC:PMC11039850 | DOI:10.3389/fnut.2024.1301427 (Source: Cancer Control)

Heart failure: the grim reaper of the cardio ‐renal‐metabolic triad
ConclusionsIn a cohort of CKD patients, having HF contributes substantially to increased mortality and the risk of MACE, and these patients are less likely to start KRT. These findings highlight the urgent need for targeted therapeutic strategies and management plans for CKD patients, particularly those with concurrent HF, to enhance patient prognosis. Association between variation in hemoglobin A1c levels and diabetes therapy ‐related quality of life in patients with diabetes
ConclusionsA small variation in HbA1c level was associated with higher total DTR-QOL scores and the scores for each factor. Reducing blood glucose variability is significant when we treat diabetes. (Source: Journal of Diabetes Investigation)

The Association Between Unintended Pregnancy and Perinatal Outcomes in Low ‐Risk Pregnancies: A Retrospective Registry Study in the Netherlands
This study used data (N = 9803) from a Dutch nationally representative registry of people with low-risk pregnancies receiving primary midwife-led care in the Netherlands between 2012 and 2020. Using logistic (mediation) regression analyses adjusted for potential confounders we investigated associations between unintended pregnancy and neonatal outcomes (low Apgar score, small for gestational age, and prematurity), parental morbidity (hypertension and gestational diabetes mellitus), and obstetric interventions (induction of labor, pain medication, assisted vaginal birth, and cesarean birth) and whether delayed initiation of...

Level of Agreement With a Multi-Test Approach to the Diagnosis of Diabetic Foot Osteomyelitis: Methodological Issue
We were interested when we read an article that was recently published online in the journal named Foot and Ankle Surgery entitled “Level of Agreement With a Multi-Test Approach to the Diagnosis of Diabetic Foot Osteomyelitis” (Meyr AJ, Kyung S, Khurana JS, Rachana C, Baidarbhi C. Level of Agreement With a Multi-Test Approach to the Diagnosis of Diabetic Foot Osteomyelitis. J Foot Ankle Surg 57(6):1137-9, 2018). The authors described the level of agreement between several of the commonly forms of diagnostic testing for diabetic foot osteomyelitis using percent agreement and Cohen's standard kappa (κ) coefficients (1)....

Roles of Neuronal Protein Kinase C ε on Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress and Autophagic Formation in Diabetic Neuropathy
AbstractIn chronic diabetic neuropathy (DN), the cellular mechanisms of neuropathic pain remain unclear. Protein kinase C epsilon (PKC ε) is an intracellular signaling molecule that mediates chronic pain. This paper addresses the long-term upregulated PKCε in DN associated with endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and autophagic formation and correlates to chronic neuropathic pain. We found that thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical a llodynia course development were associated with PKCε upregulation after DN but not skin denervation. Pathologically, PKCε upregulation was associated with the expression of inositol-requiring...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1663: Outcomes and Adverse Events in Patients with Cancer after Diagnosis of Immunotherapy-Associated Diabetes Mellitus: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Quandt Immune checkpoint inhibitor (CPI)-induced diabetes mellitus (CPI-DM) is a rare immune-related adverse event (irAE). Patients and providers fear that continuing CPIs puts patients at risk for additional irAEs and thus may discontinue therapy. Currently, there are little data to inform this decision. Therefore, this study aims to elucidate whether discontinuing CPIs after diagnosis of CPI-DM impacts the development of future irAEs and cancer outcomes such as progression and death. Patients who developed CPI-DM during cancer treatment at UCSF from 1 July 2015 to 5 July 2023 were analyzed for cancer outcomes and...

Effect of proteinuria on the rapid kidney function decline in chronic kidney disease depends on the underlying disease: A post hoc analysis of the BRIGHTEN study
The rapidity of kidney function decline in patients with nephrosclerosis (NS) is less rapid than in those with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) presumably because of a relatively low level of proteinuria [1 –3]. Several studies demonstrated that chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients with NS undergo a favourable clinical course as compared with those with DKD [1–4]. The presence of diabetes and proteinuria, but not that of hypertension, were independent predictors for rapid kidney function decline i n Taiwanese CKD patients [5].
