Predictive Performance of Radiomic Features Extracted from Breast MR Imaging in Postoperative Upgrading of Ductal Carcinoma in Situ to Invasive Carcinoma
CONCLUSION: A radiomics approach using breast MRI may be a promising method for predicting the postoperative upgrade of DCIS. The present study showed that the radiomic features extracted from pre-contrast T1WI and post-contrast subtraction images in the very early phase of DCE-MRI were more predictable.PMID:38749758 | DOI:10.2463/mrms.mp.2023-0168 (Source: Magnetic Resonance in Medical Sciences : MRMS)

Synergy of nodal factors in predicting recurrence after treatment of N1b papillary thyroid carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Nodal factors have synergy effect in predicting recurrence in cN1b PTC patients. Increasing lymph nodes harvest may only decrease recurrence in patients without gENE, while not in gENE patients.PMID:38748619 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae329 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Hepatitis B: Model Systems and Therapeutic Approaches
J Immunol Res. 2024 May 7;2024:4722047. doi: 10.1155/2024/4722047. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTHepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major global health issue and ranks among the top causes of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Although current antiviral medications, including nucleot(s)ide analogs and interferons, could inhibit the replication of HBV and alleviate the disease, HBV cannot be fully eradicated. The development of cellular and animal models for HBV infection plays an important role in exploring effective anti-HBV medicine. During the past decades, advancements in several cell culture systems, such as...

End-stage renal disease after renal cancer surgery: risk factors and overall survival
CONCLUSIONS: Patients who developed ESRD following renal cancer surgery had significantly poorer survival outcomes. Advanced age, comorbidities, higher-stage tumours and RN were identified as risk factors for developing ESRD. Surgical decisions are crucial. Efforts to spare renal function, including nephron-sparing surgery and active surveillance in appropriate cases, are highly relevant to reduce the development of severe kidney dysfunction.PMID:38747153 | DOI:10.2340/sju.v59.40322 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Urology)

Clinicopathologic features and genomic profiling of female axillary lymph node metastases from adenocarcinoma or poorly differentiated carcinoma of unknown primary
CONCLUSIONS: More active treatment methods, like chemotherapy, mastectomy and postoperative radiotherapy, could improve the prognosis of CUPAx. The differential mutation genes of CUPAx and BCAx might be associated with their respective biological behaviors like invasiveness and prognosis.PMID:38750402 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-024-05783-6 (Source: Clinical Breast Cancer)

Incidence and trends of first basal cell carcinomas in France between 1980 and 2019: a regional population-based registry study
CONCLUSIONS: BCC incidence has increased since 1980 and is still rising, particularly among men and the elderly. A slowing was observed since 2000, which could be explained by a shift in the management of BCCs and by the possible efficacy of prevention actions. This study provides insight into the BCC burden in France and highlights the need to maintain effective prevention strategies, since incidence is still increasing.PMID:38748494 | DOI:10.1093/bjd/ljae201 (Source: The British Journal of Dermatology)

Comparison of different 2D muscle indexes measured at the level of the 3rd lumbar vertebra in survival prediction in patients with renal cell carcinoma
The objective of this study was to investigate the performance of different MIs for survival prognostication in renal cell carcinoma (RCC).METHODS: We retrospectively enrolled 214 consecutive patients with RCC. We determined three L3-MIs (psoas muscle index (PMI), psoas muscle index and erector spinae index (PMI+ESI), and whole skeletal muscle index (SMI)) from preoperative CT scans. Categorization of those with low and normal muscle mass was based on the Youden Index sex-specific MI cut-offs. We determined sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy metrics for predicting 1-year, 5-year, and overall survival (OS) using Cox reg...

GPC3-targeted CAR-T cells expressing GLUT1 or AGK exhibit enhanced antitumor activity against hepatocellular carcinoma
In this study, we generated GPC3-targeted CAR-T cells overexpressing GLUT1 or AGK for the treatment of HCC. GPC3-targeted CAR-T cells overexpressing GLUT1 or AGK specifically and effectively lysed GPC3-positive tumor cells in vitro in an antigen-dependent manner. Furthermore, GLUT1 or AGK overexpression protected CAR-T cells from apoptosis during repeated exposures to tumor cells. Compared with second-generation CAR-T cells, GPC3-targeted CAR-T cells overexpressing GLUT1 or AGK exhibited greater CD8+ T-cell persistence in vivo and better antitumor effects in HCC allograft mouse models. Finally, we revealed that GLUT1 or AG...

Factors and management techniques in odontogenic keratocysts: a systematic review
CONCLUSION: Among the studies examined, the most common location for these lesions was found to be in the area of the mandibular ramus and the posterior region of the mandible. In cases where the exact location wasn't specified, the mandible emerged as the predominant site. When we considered the characteristics of these lesions in studies that mentioned locularity, most were described as unilocular in two studies, while in two other studies, the prevalence of multilocular lesions was observed. Risk factors associated with keratocyst recurrence include younger patient age, the presence of multilocular lesions, larger lesio...
