The correlation between time-intensity curve parameters of transrectal contrast-enhanced ultrasound and pathological prognostic factors in rectal adenocarcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: TIC parameters derived from TR-CEUS exhibit correlations with specific pathological prognostic factors in rectal adenocarcinomas. This non-invasive method may hold promise for preoperatively assessing the prognosis of rectal adenocarcinoma patients.PMID:38805619 | DOI:10.11152/mu-4375 (Source: Medical Ultrasonography)

Drug-Resistant Epithelial Ovarian Cancer: Current and Future Perspectives
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2024;1452:65-96. doi: 10.1007/978-3-031-58311-7_4.ABSTRACTEpithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is a complex disease with diverse histological subtypes, which, based on the aggressiveness and course of disease progression, have recently been broadly grouped into type I (low-grade serous, endometrioid, clear cell, and mucinous) and type II (high-grade serous, high-grade endometrioid, and undifferentiated carcinomas) categories. Despite substantial differences in pathogenesis, genetics, prognosis, and treatment response, clinical diagnosis and management of EOC remain similar across the subtypes. Debulking surger...

LINC00887 Acts as an Enhancer RNA to Promote Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma Progression by Binding with FOXQ1
CONCLUSION: LINC00887 was identified as a key eRNA promoting the malignant phenotype of MTC cells. The involvement of FOXQ1 was essential for LINC00887 to play a pro-tumorigenic role in MTC. Our findings suggest that the FOXQ1/LINC00887 axis is a potential therapeutic target for MTC.PMID:38804344 | DOI:10.2174/0115680096258716231026063704 (Source: Current Cancer Drug Targets)

Single-Cell Data Analysis Reveals Critical Hepatic Cells Subpopulations in the Progression of Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease to Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis
CONCLUSION: The hepatic cells 2 might promote the progression of NAFLD to NASH by regulating metabolic activity, which might contribute to liver injury through inflammation.PMID:38803181 | DOI:10.2174/0113862073303213240523095742 (Source: Combinatorial Chemistry and High Throughput Screening)

Recurrence in lobular carcinoma of the breast: A 14-year review
CONCLUSION: There are clinical implications for the management and follow-up for patients with a diagnosis of lobular cancer of the breast. Due to the low recurrence rate, now, the standard practice in our institution does not offer magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as part of the follow-up for ILC patients. Other centres should establish local recurrence rates to aid development of appropriate management protocols.PMID:38804125 | DOI:10.1111/1754-9485.13715 (Source: Clin Med Res)

Risk versus Benefit of Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors for Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A  Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
Clin Pharmacol Ther. 2024 May 27. doi: 10.1002/cpt.3312. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough the treatment landscape has rapidly evolved over the last years, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most lethal cancers. With recent advances, both immunotherapy and tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs)-based chemotherapy constitute the standard treatment for advanced HCC. A systematic search of randomized clinical trials employing TKIs was performed in 17 databases, obtaining 25 studies evaluating the prognosis, tumor response, and presence of adverse events (AEs) related to TKIs in HCC. Overall effect sizes were estimat...

Delayed metastatic endometrial carcinoma mimicking primary colon adenocarcinoma: A surprise histopathological finding
We describe a rare case of metastatic endometrial cancer in the colon presenting 5  years post radical hysterectomy and adjuvant radiotherapy in a 62-year-old female. She presented with a 1-week history of right upper quadrant pain, with no other associated symptoms. She was presumed to have a primary colorectal cancer based on her colonoscopy and CT findings; later proven other wise by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Endometrial cancer metastasis to the colon is rare, thus misdiagnosis can easily occur. Currently, there are 6 similar cases reported in the literature, all occurring in the absence of colorectal endometriosis....

Wnt/ β-catenin signaling is a therapeutic target in anaplastic thyroid carcinoma
ConclusionsWe tested Wnt inhibitor treatment, both in vitro and in vivo, as a potential novel therapy for this highly lethal disease. Future large-scale studies utilizing multiple Wnt inhibitors will lay the foundation for the development of these novel therapies for patients with ATC. (Source: Endocrine)

Plasma exosomes contain protein biomarkers valuable for the diagnosis of lung cancer
AbstractAccumulating evidence indicates that exosomal proteins are critical in diagnosing malignant tumors. To identify novel exosomal biomarkers for lung cancer diagnosis, we isolated plasma exosomes from 517 lung cancer patients and 168 healthy controls (NLs) —186 lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients (screening (SN): 20, validation (VD): 166), 159 lung squamous carcinoma (LUSC) patients (SN: 20, VD: 139), 172 benign nodules (LUBN) patients (SN: 20, VD: 152) and 168 NLs (SN: 20, VD: 148)—and randomly assigned them to the SN or VD group. Proteomic analy sis by LC–MS/MS and PRM were performed on all groups. The candida...
