A Case of Incidentally Discovered Congenital Complete Pericardial Defect during Lobectomy for Lung Cancer: A Case Report and Literature Review
Ann Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 2024;30(1). doi: 10.5761/atcs.cr.24-00041.ABSTRACTAn 82-year-old male patient underwent a left upper lobectomy with anterolateral thoracotomy for lung cancer. Although a complete left-pericardial defect was observed during surgery, the pericardial repair was not performed because the left lower lobe remained and the heart was considered stable. Postoperative pathological examination revealed primary synchronous double-lung squamous-cell carcinoma (pathological stage pT2a(2)N0M0 stage IB). He was discharged without complications on postoperative day 8. Leftward displacement of the heart and left ...

Predictive Performance of Radiomic Features Extracted from Breast MR Imaging in Postoperative Upgrading of Ductal Carcinoma in Situ to Invasive Carcinoma
CONCLUSION: A radiomics approach using breast MRI may be a promising method for predicting the postoperative upgrade of DCIS. The present study showed that the radiomic features extracted from pre-contrast T1WI and post-contrast subtraction images in the very early phase of DCE-MRI were more predictable.PMID:38749758 | DOI:10.2463/mrms.mp.2023-0168 (Source: Magnetic Resonance in Medical Sciences)

The truncated AXIN1 isoform promotes hepatocellular carcinoma metastasis through SRSF9-mediated exon 9 skipping
In this study, we explored the potential molecular mechanisms that connect alternative splicing of AXIN1 to the metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Transcriptome sequencing, RT‒PCR, qPCR and Western blotting were utilized to determine the expression levels of AXIN1 in human HCC tissues and HCC cells. The effects of the AXIN1 exon 9 alternative splice isoform and SRSF9 on the migration and invasion of HCC cells were assessed through wound healing and Transwell assays, respectively. The interaction between SRSF9 and AXIN1 was investigated using UV crosslink RNA immunoprecipitation, RNA pulldown, and RNA immunopre...

Evaluation of long-term outcome following therapeutic mammaplasty: the effect of wound complication on initiation of adjuvant therapy and subsequent oncological outcome
CONCLUSION: Our study finding demonstrates that although wound complications after TM leads to a modest delay to adjuvant therapy, the long-term oncological outcomes were comparable with those in patients without wound complications.PMID:38746984 | DOI:10.1308/rcsann.2023.0095 (Source: Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England)

Suppression of N-Glycosylation of Zinc Finger Protein 471 Affects Proliferation, Invasion, and Docetaxel Sensitivity of Tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma via Regulation of c-Myc
This study aimed to investigate the effects of ZNF471 N-glycosylation on the proliferation, invasion, and docetaxel sensitivity of tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC). It analyzed the expression, function, and prognostic significance of ZNF471 in TSCC using bioinformatics techniques such as gene differential expression analysis, univariate Cox regression analysis, functional enrichment analysis, and gene set enrichment analysis. Using site-specific mutagenesis, this study generated three mutant sites for ZNF471 N-glycosylation to determine the effect of N-glycosylation on ZNF471 protein levels and function. Quantitative ...

GPC3-targeted CAR-T cells expressing GLUT1 or AGK exhibit enhanced antitumor activity against hepatocellular carcinoma
In this study, we generated GPC3-targeted CAR-T cells overexpressing GLUT1 or AGK for the treatment of HCC. GPC3-targeted CAR-T cells overexpressing GLUT1 or AGK specifically and effectively lysed GPC3-positive tumor cells in vitro in an antigen-dependent manner. Furthermore, GLUT1 or AGK overexpression protected CAR-T cells from apoptosis during repeated exposures to tumor cells. Compared with second-generation CAR-T cells, GPC3-targeted CAR-T cells overexpressing GLUT1 or AGK exhibited greater CD8+ T-cell persistence in vivo and better antitumor effects in HCC allograft mouse models. Finally, we revealed that GLUT1 or AG...
