An extensive analysis of the prognostic and immune role of FOXO1 in various types of cancer
Braz J Med Biol Res. 2024 May 3;57:e13378. doi: 10.1590/1414-431X2024e13378. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTForkhead Box O1 (FOXO1) has been reported to play important roles in many tumors. However, FOXO1 has not been studied in pan-cancer. The purpose of this study was to reveal the roles of FOXO1 in pan-cancer (33 cancers in this study). Through multiple public platforms, a pan-cancer analysis of FOXO1 was conducted to obtained FOXO1 expression profiles in various tumors to explore the relationship between FOXO1 expression and prognosis of these tumors and to disclose the potential mechanism of FOXO1 in these tumors. FOXO1 was...

Full-Length Genome Sequencing and Analysis of Hepatitis B Viruses Isolated from Iraqi Patients
Int J Microbiol. 2024 Apr 29;2024:6826495. doi: 10.1155/2024/6826495. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTHepatitis B virus (HBV) causes liver diseases (chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma) and is a leading health problem worldwide. Sequencing of the whole HBV genome provides insight into the virus genotype, subgenotype, serotype, genetic variation, and viral drug resistance. To date, no study has been conducted on the whole genome sequence of HBV obtained from Iraqi patients. Therefore, this is the first study to sequence clinical samples from these patients. Viral genomic DNA was isolated and amplified using ...

Genetics-guided therapy in neuroendocrine carcinoma: response to BRAF- and MEK-inhibitors
CONCLUSIONS: BRAF-mutated NEC is sensitive to treatment with BRAF- and MEK-inhibitor combination. These results further support that DNA sequencing should be considered as standard of care in NECs to screen for potential treatment targets.PMID:38716076 | PMC:PMC11075439 | DOI:10.48101/ujms.v129.10660 (Source: Upsala Journal of Medical Sciences)

Bilateral breast tuberculosis: A case report
Histopathology examination of the breast tissue showing sheets of degenerating neutrophils and lymphocytes admixed with aggregates of epitheliod histiocytes with necrotic background. Key Clinical MessageBreast tuberculosis is a rare clinical condition that has the potential to imitate breast cancer or pyogenic abscess. It is crucial to consider this in patients who have resistant breast abscesses or persistent sinuses, particularly in high-risk groups or locations. The main treatment for breast tuberculosis is antitubercular treatment.AbstractBilateral breast tuberculosis is a rare form of the disease that affects breasts....

Spindle cell carcinoma of the maxillary antrum presenting in the oral cavity: A case report
ConclusionsWe report a rare case of intra-oral spindle cell carcinoma diagnosed from a palatal lesion, which has only been reported in four cases previously at this site. Despite preceding encounters with multiple medical professionals, it is not clear whether an intra-oral examination was carried out which may have established the diagnosis earlier. It emphasizes the importance of full head& neck examination, including intraoral examination in presentations of unexplained and intractable orofacial pain. (Source: Oral Surgery)

Evaluation of magnetic resonance imaging for bladder cancer detection following transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT)
ConclusionNon-contrast MRI with DWI showed high sensitivity and relatively high specificity for detection of residual tumour after TURBT. Inter-reader agreement improved from fair to moderate with the addition of DWI. MRI can be useful after TURBT in order to guide further management.Graphical abstract (Source: Abdominal Imaging)

The Barthel Index Predicts Surgical Textbook Outcomes Following Hepatectomy for Elderly Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Multicenter Cohort Study
The burgeoning demand for hepatectomy in elderly patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) necessitates improved perioperative care. Geriatric populations frequently experience functional decline and frailty, predisposing them to adverse postoperative outcomes. The Barthel Index serves as a reliable measure for assessing functional capacity, and this study evaluates its impact on surgical textbook outcomes (TOs) in elderly HCC patients. Hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy combined with camrelizumab plus rivoceranib for hepatocellular carcinoma with portal vein tumor thrombosis: a multicenter propensity score-matching analysis
ConclusionIn the context of advanced HCC patients with PVTT, the combination regime of HAIC and camrelizumab plus rivoceranib demonstrates more excellent capacity for prolonging survival and offers a well-tolerated safety compared to the CR dual therapy approach. This triple regime  represents a therapeutic modality of broad prospects and vast potential for HCC patients with PVTT. (Source: Hepatology International)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1799: CXCR4: From Signaling to Clinical Applications in Neuroendocrine Neoplasms
erino-Torres There are several well-described molecular mechanisms that influence cell growth and are related to the development of cancer. Chemokines constitute a fundamental element that is not only involved in local growth but also affects angiogenesis, tumor spread, and metastatic disease. Among them, the C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 12 (CXCL12) and its specific receptor the chemokine C-X-C motif receptor 4 (CXCR4) have been widely studied. The overexpression in cell membranes of CXCR4 has been shown to be associated with the development of different kinds of histological malignancies, such as adenocarcinomas, epid...
