Dietary Modification Combined with Nutrition Education and Counseling for Metabolic Comorbidities in Multiple Sclerosis: Implications for Clinical Practice and Research
AbstractPurpose of ReviewMetabolic comorbidities such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia are common to multiple sclerosis (MS) and are associated with negative outcomes of the disease. Dietary intervention has the potential to improve MS co-morbidities; thus, it is a high priority for people living  with MS to self-manage their disease. The present review aimed to summarize the recent evidence on the impacts of combining dietary modification with nutrition education and counseling on managing metabolic comorbidity markers in MS.Recent Findings Evidence suggests important roles for tailored dietary change...

The Impact of Infectious Mononucleosis History on the Risk of Developing Lymphoma and Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma: a Retrospective Large-Scale Cohort Study using National Health Insurance Data in South Korea
CONCLUSION: This study suggests that individuals with a history of IM have an elevated risk of developing lymphoma and NPC in South Korea, emphasizing the importance of vigilant follow-up and monitoring. The results advocate for heightened awareness and potential national monitoring policies to address the long-term health implications of EBV infection and to implement preventive measures.PMID:38665055 | DOI:10.4143/crt.2023.1356 (Source: Cancer Control)

Nestorone (segesterone acetate) effects on neuroregeneration
Front Neuroendocrinol. 2024 Apr 24:101136. doi: 10.1016/j.yfrne.2024.101136. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNestorone® (segesterone acetate) is a progestin with a chemical structure closely related to progesterone with high affinity and selectivity for the progesterone receptor without significant interaction with other steroid receptors. It has been developed for female and male contraception and is FDA-approved in a first long-acting contraceptive vaginal system for female contraception. Its safety has been extensively demonstrated in both preclinical and clinical studies for contraceptive indications. Nestorone was foun...

Feasibility of exergaming for upper extremity rehabilitation in people with multiple sclerosis: prospective clinical trial
ConclusionThese results showed that our custom-made exergaming scenario could be feasible in upper extremity rehabilitation in MS. More research is needed to investigate its effectiveness in the rehabilitation of upper limbs. (Source: Acta Neurologica Belgica)

Dental Adverse Effects of Anti-CD20 Therapies
ConclusionTo our knowledge, this is the first case series reporting dental conditions developed in patients long-term treated with anti-CD20 treatments. This issue, literature data, and Vigilyze ® analysis might be considered a safety signal that necessitates being confirmed with more robust data, such as a retrospective study with a control group. Meanwhile, proactive measures are essential like frequent dental checkups and dental hygienic measures to prevent oral health problems associat ed with anti-CD20 therapies. Cross-cultural validity and reliability of the comprehensive assessment of acceptance and commitment therapy processes (CompACT) in people with multiple sclerosis
ConclusionResults support using the refined CompACT-18 as a three-factor measure of psychological flexibility in PwMS. Paper and eCompACT-18 versions are equivalent. CompACT-18 can be used cross-culturally, but sub-optimal scalar invariance suggests that direct comparison between the three language versions should be interpreted with caution. Narratives of Space and Time in Multiple Sclerosis Diagnosis
This article examines the complexity of narratives of space and time which support the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, and the consequences for patients disadvantaged by deficits in social cognition or socioeconomic status in areas relating to literacy. In the context of demonstrating the significance of narratives of space and time in the diagnostic process for multiple sclerosis, the article discusses new strategies for treatment that engage the arts and humanities and presents a brief history of the disease and current diagnostic criteria, before discussing the MS Society of Great Britain and Ireland's awareness and fu...

An exploration of causal relationships between nine neurological diseases and the risk of breast cancer: a Mendelian randomization study
CONCLUSIONS: This study found the trends towards a decreased risk of ER+ breast cancer in patients with Alzheimer's disease and an increased risk in patients with multiple sclerosis. However, due to the limitations of Mendelian randomization, we cannot determine whether there are definite causal relationships between neurological diseases and breast cancer risk. For conclusive evidences, more prospective randomized controlled trials will be needed in the future.PMID:38663930 | DOI:10.18632/aging.205745 (Source: Aging)
