Systematic Literature Review on the Incidence of Herpes Zoster in Populations at Increased Risk of Disease in the EU/EEA, Switzerland, and the UK
ConclusionsThe HZ incidence rate in Europe increased with age and varied across high-risk populations, with high rates for solid organ and stem cell transplants, cancer, and rheumatoid arthritis. Most studies were retrospective with methodological differences affecting generalizability and comparability. Future studies should stratify data by IC population, age, sex, severity, medication, and study timeframe. (Source: Infectious Diseases and Therapy)

Multiple sclerosis and bipolar disorder: an  overlap between soma and psyche
Tijdschr Psychiatr. 2024;66(3):165-167.ABSTRACTThis clinical vignette describes a 29-year-old woman who had her first neurological manifestations of multiple sclerosis (MS) on the same day as a second lifetime manic episode as part of a bipolar I disorder. The patient was stable for eight years before this episode. An MRI-scan conducted during admission showed multiple demyelinating lesions in the frontal cortex, which might have influenced the development and course of the manic episode. Her manic symptoms went into remission during the same time as her neurological symptoms. This clinical vignette with literature review ...

IL-22, a vital cytokine in autoimmune diseases
Clin Exp Immunol. 2024 Apr 23:uxae035. doi: 10.1093/cei/uxae035. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInterleukin-22 (IL-22) is a vital cytokine that is dysregulated in various autoimmune conditions including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), multiple sclerosis (MS), and Alzheimer's disease (AD). As the starting point for the activation of numerous signaling pathways, IL-22 plays an important role in the initiation and development of autoimmune diseases. Specifically, imbalances in IL-22 signaling can interfere with other signaling pathways, causing cross regulation of target genes which ultimately leads to the development of immune dis...

Neuro-urological diagnostics and treatment of non-traumatic/degenerative neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction exemplified by multiple sclerosis
This article presents the current diagnostic and therapeutic options of neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction in multiple sclerosis. A crucial issue is the initial delay in diagnosis, not least due to a lack of communication between neurologists and urologists. Initial indicators of the presence of neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction can be obtained by actively asking about the subjective presence of symptoms such as urinary incontinence or the occurrence of urinary tract infections. However, a subjective lack of symptoms does not rule out a neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction. Regardless of the stage of...

Uveitis-Glaucoma-Hyphema Syndrome Secondary to Implantable Collamer Lens
Conclusion: We present the first published case worldwide about UGH syndrome secondary to ICL. This is an unusual complication, and measures can be taken to avoid it. This provides evidence of the importance of postoperative follow-up by the surgeon and appropriate work-up when such cases are suspected.PMID:38652606 | DOI:10.1080/09273948.2024.2342386 (Source: Ocular Immunology and Inflammation)
