Experiential acceptance in the treatment of complex somatic symptom disorder
CONCLUSION: The current study demonstrates that an increase in experiential acceptance goes hand in hand with an improvement in mental health and general health perception. These results indicate the potential importance of acceptance-based treatment in patients with complex SSD. Experimental research with more frequent measurements is needed to test a temporal relationship between (first) increased acceptance and (then) improved quality of life.PMID:38650510 (Source: Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie)

Patient-related stressful experiences in  psychiatry residency
CONCLUSION: In this study new patient related stressful experiences are reported that have not previously been described in the literature. Since estimating the impact of a patient related stressful experience proves difficult, it seems appropriate that the environment of the resident offers active support and further development of residents’ skills is stimulated.PMID:38650512 (Source: Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie)

ChatGPT in mental health care
CONCLUSION: ChatGPT has the potential to significantly transform MHC, from streamlining administrative tasks to enhancing therapeutic contact. Aspects such as privacy and information accuracy should be central in its implementation. While current scientific evidence is still quite limited, ChatGPT already offers possibilities that should now be utilized by healthcare professionals. It is crucial that therapists form an opinion about ChatGPT, and institutions should be willing to invest in this innovative technology.PMID:38650514 (Source: Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie)

Multiple sclerosis and bipolar disorder: an  overlap between soma and psyche
Tijdschr Psychiatr. 2024;66(3):165-167.ABSTRACTThis clinical vignette describes a 29-year-old woman who had her first neurological manifestations of multiple sclerosis (MS) on the same day as a second lifetime manic episode as part of a bipolar I disorder. The patient was stable for eight years before this episode. An MRI-scan conducted during admission showed multiple demyelinating lesions in the frontal cortex, which might have influenced the development and course of the manic episode. Her manic symptoms went into remission during the same time as her neurological symptoms. This clinical vignette with literature review ...

Intensive exposure treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder in old age.
Tijdschr Psychiatr. 2024;66(3):168-171.ABSTRACTThe absence of treatment studies for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) in older adults and the fact that OCD typically starts at a young age and often follows a chronic, fluctuating course quickly leads to therapeutic nihilism for older adults with OCD. In this case report, we present a 72-year-old man with OCD symptoms from the age of 35, who has only been treated with medication and psychotherapy for a recurrent depressive disorder. After a short, intensive exposure and response prevention treatment (four days in two weeks), the OCD symptoms and the depressive symptoms wer...
