How important is anesthesiology-specific research for a residency application?
Hi all, I am an M1 with a prior master's degree. I'm strongly leaning towards anesthesiology as a specialty. I've been doing research for the last couple months with a professor (PHD) in the radiology / neurology department. I'm set to publish a paper by December, as the first author. It is MRI / multiple sclerosis research. The position is great, I love the research I do, I get paid for the position, I have weekly meetings with the professor and learn a lot. I would... Two fellowships in neurology advice (1 outpatient+1 inpatient)
Hello, I have read threads of doing multiple neurology fellowships before, however I wanted to kind of run again my idea of doing two fellowships by the members of this group. I like stroke but hate the lifestyle. I okay-ish like multiple sclerosis/epilepsy but love their lifestyles (MS>Epilepsy). Thus I was wondering if doing (stroke+ MS) or (stroke+epilepsy) is a good idea with a hope to later transition to only outpatient practice. I know stroke doesn't need a fellowship especially if... Do all neurology subspecialties in academia pay equally (adjusted for location, demand, experience level etc.)?
I think neuromuscular, epilepsy, movement are fairly similar in terms of pay. I've heard the salaries are usually in the $210-240k for these subspecialties in a non-coastal, non-ivy league place. What about stroke, neurocritical care, multiple sclerosis (if one does infusions), interventional neuroradiology? Is the compensation in these specialties similar, and if not, could anyone give a ballpark estimate for each of these (relative to the $220k figure I quoted above for the outpatient... Clinical Research Coordinator Position at Boston Children's Hospital (Boston, MA)
Hi SDN! Longtime lurker on the forums, and posting this opportunity here (and non-trad, mods please delete if not OK) over the other premed boards, because this corner tends to draw a more reasonable and (imo) deserving crowd. I currently work on a clinical research team at Boston Children's Hospital focusing on rare pediatric neuroimmunological disorders - multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, transverse myelitis, autoimmune encephalitis, epilepsy, and others. One of our longtime... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Multiple sclerosis
Hello students and future colleagues I wondered if you could help me out with MS What is exactly the meaning of the term "Progression" in MS - pathologically and clinically (guess worsening - greater degree of disability?), as progression in e.g. relapsing-remitting MS; is stated to occur between the attacks/relapses. Thanks for the cooperation (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I think my personal statement is cliche
I am just in the beginnings of my essay, and usually what I do with writing is just letting it flow. I ended up writing about my mom's multiple sclerosis and how from a young age I was interested in how the disease worked, especially as my parents are both scientists and could explain it to me. And as she progressed, I decided to volunteer with other people facing disabilities. I just don't know how to specifically make it about wanting to be a physician as opposed to research or other... CRISPR and Gene Editing Treatment
Anyone else find this new treatment exciting? Hopefully one day in the future gene-editing treatment will be a routine, alternative treatment for those with genomic/chromosomal abnormalities (multiple sclerosis, cancer, lupus, etc). I just saw this one story about this little girl who had leukemia, and it was very progressive and nothing could be done for her. However, she was one of the first to apparently have been used with CRISPR, where they changed the DNA of her WBC's so they can... CRISPR and Gene Editing Treatment (Source: Student Doctor Network)

neuroimmunology/multiple sclerosis fellowships
I'm a PGY-3 neurology resident interested in applying to a neuroimmunology fellowship. Does anyone have a list of programs that offer fellowships? I'm particularly interested [though not exclusively] in programs within California. I know that Stanford, UCSF, and USC offer fellowship programs in MS. Are there any others. Does anyone have advice about which programs are desirable. Also, can anyone provide any resources for applying to fellowships in general? I know that... neuroimmunology/multiple sclerosis fellowships (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CS question about diagnostic tests
Hey guys, I'm still finding the official information on the CS exam a bit vague. I'd like to use an example, and can you tell me what you guys would pick in the situation please Example: In a case where it is pretty obviously MYASTHENIA GRAVIS, but we will still include other differentials that are similar and close to it, so: 1. Myasthenia Gravis 2. Horner's Syndrome 3. Multiple Sclerosis What would you put for your lab tests? 1. AchR antibodies 2. Tensilon test (is it necessary if...
