Safety and complications of continuation of aspirin therapy in patients undergoing robot-assisted laparoscopic simple prostatectomy
AbstractTo evaluate the safety and feasibility of continued perioperative aspirin at the time of robotic assisted simple prostatectomy (RASP). We performed a retrospective review of our IRB approved institutional database of patients who underwent RASP between 2013 and 2022. Comparative groups included patients taking aspirin in the perioperative period and those not taking aspirin pre-operatively. The primary outcome was any post-operative bleeding related complication using the modified Clavien –Dindo classification. Secondary outcomes included the identification of risk factors for increased blood loss in the entire s...

IJERPH, Vol. 21, Pages 541: Health-Related Physical Fitness Evaluation in HIV-Diagnosed Children and Adolescents: A Scoping Review
Conclusions: The research on muscular strength/endurance, cardiorespiratory fitness and flexibility has been scarcely explored. The lack of studies that investigated method usability as well as reference values was evidenced. (Source: International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health)

Flank versus prone position in percutaneous nephrolithotomy: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies
The objective of this study is to assess the safety and efficacy of the flank position in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). We searched PubMed, Embase, SCOPUS, the Cochrane database libraries, and the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing PCNL in flank position are included in this meta-analysis. The related trials met the inclusion criteria were analyzed using RevMan 5.4. Seven randomized controlled trials were included, involving a total of 587 patients. We found that there was a lower decrease in hemoglobin levels in the flank position group compared to prone-positi...

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1968: Exploring the Biomedical Potential of Terpenoid Alkaloids: Sources, Structures, and Activities
Niu Sheng Liu Terpenoid alkaloids are recognized as a class of compounds with limited numbers but potent biological activities, primarily derived from plants, with a minor proportion originating from animals and microorganisms. These alkaloids are synthesized from the same prenyl unit that forms the terpene skeleton, with the nitrogen atom introduced through β-aminoethanol, ethylamine, or methylamine, leading to a range of complex and diverse structures. Based on their skeleton type, they can be categorized into monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, diterpenes, and triterpene alkaloids. To date, 289 natural terp...

Asthma and cardiovascular disease: embracing disease heterogeneity is required
Extract We read with interest the recent original research investigation by Valencia-Hernández et al. [1]. This observational study used two approaches to investigate the association of asthma and coronary heart disease (CHD): medical records and Mendelian randomisation (MR). Their results differ compared to many other prior studies investigating the association of asthma and CHD [2]. We applaud the authors for the thoroughness of the investigation; however, we have identified key methodological considerations in this study which may account for differences in the conclusions, compared to prior studies. Subclinical Atherosclerosis to Guide Treatment in Dyslipidemia and Diabetes Mellitus
AbstractPurpose of ReviewDyslipidemia and type 2 diabetes mellitus are two common conditions that are associated with an increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). In this review, we aimed to provide an in-depth and contemporary review of non-invasive approaches to assess subclinical atherosclerotic burden, predict cardiovascular risk, and guide appropriate treatment strategies. We focused this paper on two main imaging modalities: coronary artery calcium (CAC) score and computed tomography coronary angiography.Recent FindingsRecent longitudinal studies have provided stronger evidence on the relation...

Challenges in Ventricular Arrhythmia Ablation: Difficult Substrates and Advanced Ablation Strategies
This article provides a brief overview of difficult substrate ablation strategies in patients with premature ventricular contractions (PVC) or ventricular tachycardia (VT) and explores methods to improve outcomes for cases that do not respond to typical ablation techniques.Recent findingsRecent developments highlight the crucial role of advanced imaging and mapping techniques in the visualization, characterization, and localization of challenging ventricular substrates. Additionally, some novel and advanced ablation strategies may be useful when PVC/VT is refractory to conventional ablation treatment.SummaryAn expanding sp...
