Viruses, Vol. 16, Pages 677: Caboxamycin Inhibits Heart Inflammation in a Coxsackievirus B3-Induced Myocarditis Mouse Model
ang-Jip Nam Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) is a positive single-strand RNA genome virus which belongs to the enterovirus genus in the picornavirus family, like poliovirus. It is one of the most prevalent pathogens that cause myocarditis and pancreatitis in humans. However, a suitable therapeutic medication and vaccination have yet to be discovered. Caboxamycin, a benzoxazole antibiotic isolated from the culture broth of the marine strain Streptomyces sp., SC0774, showed an antiviral effect in CVB3-infected HeLa cells and a CVB3-induced myocarditis mouse model. Caboxamycin substantially decreased CVB3 VP1 production and cleav...

Reply: Asthma and cardiovascular disease: the strength of triangulation
Extract In their correspondence, M.C. Tattersall and co-workers noted that our study reports contrasting findings to some earlier studies, including their own. They have raised several methodological points regarding our triangulation approach which leveraged two wholly different methods (traditional observational study and Mendelian randomisation) and multiple entirely different datasets [1]. We have discussed each of their concerns here. (Source: European Respiratory Journal)

Safety and complications of continuation of aspirin therapy in patients undergoing robot-assisted laparoscopic simple prostatectomy
AbstractTo evaluate the safety and feasibility of continued perioperative aspirin at the time of robotic assisted simple prostatectomy (RASP). We performed a retrospective review of our IRB approved institutional database of patients who underwent RASP between 2013 and 2022. Comparative groups included patients taking aspirin in the perioperative period and those not taking aspirin pre-operatively. The primary outcome was any post-operative bleeding related complication using the modified Clavien –Dindo classification. Secondary outcomes included the identification of risk factors for increased blood loss in the entire s...

Acute diverticulitis with extraluminal air: is conservative treatment sufficient? A single-center retrospective study
ConclusionsConservative treatment with antibiotics for acute diverticulitis with extraluminal air is safe with a success rate of 89%. Patients with distant pneumoperitoneum should be carefully monitored. (Source: Techniques in Coloproctology)
