Inversion recovery and saturation recovery pulmonary vein MR angiography using an image based navigator fluoro trigger and variable-density 3D cartesian sampling with spiral-like order
We describe its use in part during the global iodinated contrast shortage. VD-CASPR/iNAV framework was applied to ECG-gated inversion and saturation recovery gradient recalled echo PV CE-MRA in 65 patients (66 exams) using .15 mmol/kg Gadobutrol. Image quality was assessed by three physician s, and anatomical segmentation quality by two technologists. Left atrial SNR and left atrial/myocardial CNR were measured. 12 patients had CTA within 6 months of MRA. Two readers assessed PV ostial measurements versus CTA for intermodality/interobserver agreement. Inter-rater/intermodality reliabil ity, reproducibility of ostial meas...

Evolving role of aortic valve calcification scoring – Time for opportunistic screening?
Aortic stenosis (AS) stands as the third most prevalent cardiovascular disease worldwide afflicting over 12% of individuals aged 75 and above, a figure projected to escalate alongside population aging trends. Its ramifications extend significantly to morbidity and mortality rates.1 The most common etiology is the fibrocalcific thickening of the aortic valve leaflets leading to progressive restricted leaflet opening, with less common causes being congenital bicuspid, rheumatic fever, and radiation. Echocardiographic assessment of cardiovascular involvements in children with cystic fibrosis
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a fatal disease in which the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CTFR) gene is mutated, resulting in defect in CFTR protein dependent sodium and chloride transport activity. It has been proved that Dysfunction of CFTR leads to imbalance in regulating the conduction of sodium and chloride ions in epithelial cell membranes and increased mucosal viscosity, which eventually leads to a variety of abnormalities such as pulmonary infection and gastrointestinal involvement [1,2]. Association of soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 with mortality and adverse outcomes in chronic kidney disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsHigh sST2 values are associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality in pre-dialysis and dialysis patients, as well as with an elevated risk of cardiovascular mortality in the dialysis population. Further studies are needed to elucidate its potential association with cardiovascular events and kidney disease progression. (Source: Clinical and Experimental Nephrology)

The additive prognostic value of end-systolic pressure-volume relation by stress CMR in patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease
ConclusionΔESPVR index by stress-CMR was independently associated with cardiac outcomes in patients with known/suspected CAD, in addition to replacement myocardial fibrosis and diabetes. Thus, the assessment of ΔESPVR index may be included into the standard stress-CMR exam to further stratify the patients. (Source: The International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging)

An integrated view of cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, and cardiotoxicity: characteristics, common molecular mechanisms, and current clinical management
AbstractCisplatin (CP) is a chemotherapy drug widely prescribed to treat various neoplasms. Although fundamental for the therapeutic action of the drug, its cytotoxic mechanisms trigger adverse effects in several tissues, such as the kidney, liver, and heart, which limit its clinical use. In this sense, studies point to an essential role of damage to nuclear and mitochondrial DNA associated with oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis in the pathophysiology of tissue injuries. Due to the limitation of effective preventive and therapeutic measures against CP-induced toxicity, new strategies with potential cytoprotecti...

An 11-month-old boy with tuberculous meningitis presenting as progressive limb weakness, fever, developmental retardation, and loss of consciousness: a case report
ConclusionOver half of treated TB meningitis patients die or suffer severe neurological sequelae, mainly due to late diagnosis. Hence, early diagnosis and prompt initiation of TB treatment offer the best chance of a good neurological outcome. (Source: Journal of Medical Case Reports)

Ketogenic Diets Hold Therapeutic Potential Against Periodontal Inflammation
AbstractPurpose of ReviewPeriodontitis, one of the most prevalent diseases in the world, is caused by the accumulation of dysbiotic microbial biofilm on the teeth leading to chronic inflammation of the tissues surrounding the teeth. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), obesity, chronic stress, and smoking are some of the risk factors for the disease. A high-carbohydrate diet also increases the risk of periodontal inflammation. Modifying diet and nutrition could serve as a preventive and therapeutic tool to target multiple risk factors simultaneously.Recent FindingsEmerging evidence shows that the ketogenic diet induces hormeti...

Bioactive adrenomedullin as a marker of congestion and disease progression in patients with a systemic right ventricle
Adults with a systemic right ventricle (sRV) are at a high risk for heart failure (HF) hospitalisation and mortality. Bioactive adrenomedullin (bio-ADM) has been proposed as a marker of congestion and prognosis in patients with cardiovascular disease. We aimed to evaluate the association between bio-ADM and mortality and HF events in sRV patients. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Immunological Aspects of Kabuki Syndrome: A Retrospective Multicenter Study of the Italian Primary Immunodeficiency Network (IPINet)
In conclusion, immunological manifestations of KS in our cohort include susceptibility to infections, antibody deficiency, and autoimmunity. Autoimmune cytopenia is correlated with thymectomy and elevated CD3  + TCRαβ + CD4-CD8-T-cells, and benefits from treatment with mycophenolate. (Source: Journal of Clinical Immunology)
