Evolving role of aortic valve calcification scoring – Time for opportunistic screening?

Aortic stenosis (AS) stands as the third most prevalent cardiovascular disease worldwide afflicting over 12% of individuals aged 75 and above, a figure projected to escalate alongside population aging trends. Its ramifications extend significantly to morbidity and mortality rates.1 The most common etiology is the fibrocalcific thickening of the aortic valve leaflets leading to progressive restricted leaflet opening, with less common causes being congenital bicuspid, rheumatic fever, and radiation.
