Tuning Structural Characteristics of Corn Stover Through Ammonium and Sodium Sulfite (ASS) Pretreatment for Enhanced Enzymatic Hydrolysis
In this study, we have updated the AFEX pretreatment method; ammonia and sodium sulfite (ASS) can be used to produce a more digestible substrate. The results demonstrate that ASS-pretreated corn stover (CS) yields a higher fermentable sugar yield compared with AFEX pretreatment, even at lower enzyme loadings. Specifically, at an enzyme loading of 12 mg protein/g glucan, ASS-CS achieved 88.8% glucose and 80.6% xylose yield. Characterization analysis reveals that lignin underwent sulfonation during ASS pretreatment. This modification results in a more negative zeta potential for ASS-CS, indicating a reduction in nonproductiv...

Tropomyosin 2 Regulates Tumor Cell Proliferation, Immune Suppression, and Activation of the JNK Signaling Pathway in Colitis-Associated Cancer (CAC)
CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrated that TPM2 knockdown suppressed the proliferation of CAC IECs, enhanced immune suppression on CAC IECs, and inhibited the JNK signaling pathway within the framework of CAC. These findings suggest TPM2 can serve as a potential therapeutic target for CAC treatment.PMID:38665026 | DOI:10.24976/Discov.Med.202436183.73 (Source: Cancer Control)

A cohort study of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors after acute kidney injury among Veterans with diabetic kidney disease.
Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) reduce the risk for several adverse outcomes among patients with diabetic kidney disease. Yet, optimal timing for SGLT2i after acute kidney injury (AKI) is uncertain, as are the providers responsible for post-AKI SGLT2i initiation. Using a retrospective cohort of United States Veterans with diabetes mellitus type 2 and proteinuria, we examined encounters by provider specialty before SGLT2i initiation and subsequent all-cause mortality after hospitalization with AKI, defined by a 50% or more rise in serum creatinine. Decellularized kidney capsule as a three-dimensional scaffold for tissue regeneration
AbstractTissue regeneration is thought to have considerable promise with the use of scaffolds designed for tissue engineering. Although polymer-based scaffolds for tissue engineering have been used extensively and developed quickly, their ability to mimic the in-vivo milieu, overcome immunogenicity, and have comparable mechanical or biochemical properties has limited their capability for repair. Fortunately, there is a compelling method to get around these challenges thanks to the development of extracellular matrix (ECM) scaffolds made from decellularized tissues. We used ECM decellularized sheep kidney capsule tissue in ...

A systematic review and meta-analysis of diagnostic performance of fluorescein-guided sentinel lymph node biopsy in early breast cancer
ConclusionFluorescein-guided SLNB is a viable option for detection of lymph node metastases in clinically node negative patients with early breast cancer. It achieves a high pooled Sentinel Lymph Node Identification Rate (SLN-IR) of 93% with a false negative rate of 5.6% for the detection of axillary lymph node metastasis. Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 555: GhCLCc-1, a Chloride Channel Gene from Upland Cotton, Positively Regulates Salt Tolerance by Modulating the Accumulation of Chloride Ions
gbin Ma Wei Liu The ionic toxicity induced by salinization has adverse effects on the growth and development of crops. However, researches on ionic toxicity and salt tolerance in plants have focused primarily on cations such as sodium ions (Na+), with very limited studies on chloride ions (Cl−). Here, we cloned the homologous genes of Arabidopsis thaliana AtCLCc, GhCLCc-1A/D, from upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum), which were significantly induced by NaCl or KCl treatments. Subcellular localization showed that GhCLCc-1A/D were both localized to the tonoplast. Complementation of Arabidopsis...

Comparison of central diabetes insipidus (antidiuretic hormone deficiency) and stalk effect in patients with adamantinomatous and papillary craniopharyngioma
AbstractCraniopharyngioma (CP), a rare benign intracranial tumor, is still a major clinical challenge. There are two major histologic phenotypes: papillary CP (PCP) and adamantinomatous CP (ACP). This research aimed to assess the occurrence of central diabetes insipidus (antidiuretic hormone deficiency), the level of prolactin, and the stalk effect between PCP and ACP subtypes prior to and after surgery. Clinical data of CP patients before and after surgical resection of the tumor were analyzed retrospectively. These patients were divided into PCP and ACP groups, in accordance with the pathologic classification. The data o...

Continuous Flow Electrochemical Synthesis of Olivine ‐Structured NaFePO4 Cathode Material for Sodium‐Ion Batteries from Recycle LiFePO4
Schematic of the working principle of a continuous flow electrochemical solid-liquid coupled reactor for the synthesis of NFP, by which NFP is successfully synthesized at 50% of the theoretical reductant dosage. The binding energy of NaxFePO4 (0< x< 0.95) is calculated to investigate the incomplete insertion of sodium ions during NFP synthesis. AbstractTo mitigate the environmental impact of the improper disposal of spent LiFePO4 batteries and reduce resource waste, the development of LiFePO4 recycling technologies is of paramount importance. Meanwhile, olivine-structured NaFePO4 in sodium-ion batteries has received ...
