Can α-synuclein oligomers in skin biopsies predict the worsening of cognition in Parkinson’s disease? A single-center longitudinal cohort study
Background: Proximity ligation assay (PLA) has been employed to detect α-synuclein oligomers within synaptic terminals of autonomic fibers in skin biopsies from Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients. Whether this biomarker can track the progression of PD features is still unknown. We investigated whether the PLA score can predict the future worsening of cognitive functi on in PD. Let us not conflate burn risk and race onto patients with atopic dermatitis
In this issue of the Annals of Allergy, Asthma& Immunology, Alexis et al1 evaluated the efficacy and safety of abrocitinib by race, ethnicity, and Fitzpatrick skin types (FST). This analysis included pooled data from 945 patients older than 12 years who received abrocitinib 200 mg, abrocitinib 100 mg, or placebo from 3 double-blind placebo-controlled atopic dermatitis (AD) trials.1 Race and ethnicity were self-reported. Only data from White (n = 628), Asian (n = 204), and Black (n = 83) patients were analyzed because of low numbers of other racial subgroups, including multiracial patients and those who did not self-report ...

A Multifunctional Herb ‐Derived Glycopeptide Hydrogel for Chronic Wound Healing
This research aimed to build a herb-derived versatile glycopeptide hydrogel as a promising dressing to promote chronic wound repair. AbstractChronic wounds constitute an increasingly prevalent global healthcare issue, characterized by recurring bacterial infections, pronounced oxidative stress, compromised functionality of immune cells, unrelenting inflammatory reactions, and deficits in angiogenesis. In response to these multifaceted challenges, the study introduced a stimulus-responsive glycopeptide hydrogel constructed by oxidizedBletilla striata polysaccharide (OBSP), gallic acid-grafted ε-Polylysine (PLY-GA), and pae...

Influence of type of vehicle on dermal penetration efficacy of hydrophilic, amphiphilic, lipophilic model drugs
Eur J Pharm Biopharm. 2024 Apr 27:114305. doi: 10.1016/j.ejpb.2024.114305. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe influence of the vehicle on the dermal penetration efficacy of three different active ingredient (AI) surrogates (hydrophilic, amphiphilic, lipophilic model drugs), that were incorporated into these vehicles, was investigated with the ex vivo porcine ear model, which allowed to assess time and space resolved dermal penetration profiles of the AI. Fifteen different vehicles, including classical vehicles (hydrogel, oleogel, o/w cream, w/o ointment, amphiphilic cream) and innovative vehicles were included into the stud...

Tomotherapy in synchronous and metachronous bilateral breast cancer: Clinical experience
CONCLUSION: Our results show the efficacy of using helical Tomotherapy considering positive outcomes, being that three out of four patients are in remission with low acute toxicity and late complications. There are a small number of articles describing bilateral breast cancer treatment with helical Tomotherapy. On this occasion, our data could contribute to the studies of tolerant doses for organs at risk and improve the parameters of treatment plans for bilateral breast cancer. Since the small sample of patients with bilateral breast cancer limits the study, a larger cohort of patients is essential to obtain statistically...

Factors Influencing Iatrogenic Skin Injury in Neonates and Nursing Strategies
CONCLUSION: Length of stay, orotracheal intubation use, and gastric tube use are independent risk factors for iatrogenic skin injury in neonates. Hospital stays and unnecessary use of orotracheal intubation and gastric tube should be reduced in future clinical management. Attention should be paid to strengthening skin observation and care, keeping skin dry and clean, and preventing iatrogenic skin injury.PMID:38687850 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Age group-specific changes in keratinocyte cancer treatment rates in Australia, 2012- 2021: a retrospective cohort study based on MBS claims data
CONCLUSIONS: Rates of MBS-subsidised treatment for keratinocyte cancers increased during 2012-2019, but BCC/SCC treatment rates declined among younger Australians, who have probably been exposed to less sunlight than earlier generations because of public health interventions and population-wide lifestyle changes related to technology use.PMID:38685827 | DOI:10.5694/mja2.52293 (Source: Medical Journal of Australia)
