The crystallization properties of antifreeze GelMA hydrogel and its application in cryopreservation of tissue-engineered skin constructs
J Biomed Mater Res B Appl Biomater. 2024 May;112(5):e35408. doi: 10.1002/jbm.b.35408.ABSTRACTGelatin methacrylate (GelMA) hydrogels are expected to be ideal skin tissue engineering dressings for a wide range of clinical treatments. Herein, we report the preparation of GelMA or antifreeze GelMA hydrogel sheets with different GelMA concentrations, crosslinking times, and cryoprotectant (CPA) concentrations. The crystallization properties of GelMA or antifreeze GelMA hydrogel sheets were studied by cryomicroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It was found that the growth of ice crystals was slower when GelMA hy...

Epidermoid Cyst of the Maxillary Sinus: A Case Report and Literature Review
We describe a rare case of an epidermoid cyst arising in the right maxillary sinus. A 29-year-old man with a known diagnosis of Marfan syndrome presented with progressive swelling and tenderness in the right buccal region, mimicking facial cellulitis, and refractory to medical treatment. Computed tomography scan showed a cystic lesion extending widely into the right maxillary sinus. The cyst was successfully removed with a medial maxillectomy through inferior antrostomy approach under general anesthesia. Histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of an epidermoid cyst, showing a cystic wall lined with a thin layer of...

Patients' and Caregivers' Experiences Navigating the Burden of Atopic Dermatitis in Argentina
Discussion: Mental health, pain/discomfort, and financial worries are the most important burdens for adult AD patients and caregivers of children with AD in Argentina. We recommend prioritizing disease-specific education and shared decision making to improve AD care in Argentina.PMID:38674230 | PMC:PMC11052293 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040584 (Source: Pain Physician)

Immunolabeling for filaggrin and acidic keratins in the granular layer of mammalian epidermis indicates that an acidic-basic interaction is involved in cornification
Tissue Cell. 2024 Apr 25;88:102397. doi: 10.1016/j.tice.2024.102397. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe soft epidermis of mammals derives from the accumulation of keratohyaline granules in the granular layer, before maturing into corneocytes. Main proteins accumulated in the granular layer are pro-filaggrin and filaggrin that determine keratin clumping and later moisturization of the stratum corneum that remains flexible. This soft epidermis allows the high sensitivity of mammalian skin. Presence and thickness of the stratum granulosum varies among different species of mammals and even between different body regions of the ...

A Pharmacovigilance Study of adverse events associated with polymyxins based on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration adverse event reporting system (FAERS) database
CONCLUSIONS: Patients treated with colistin displayed a higher potential risk of nephrotoxicity but a lower risk of neurotoxicity when compared to those treated with PMB. Clinicians should be vigilant in monitoring the AEs of hyperpigmentation disorders induced by PMB, as there have been reported cases associated with its use, whereas no instances of this AE were reported among colistin-treated patients. Nevertheless, further research, especially with larger sample sizes, is imperative to validate these findings.PMID:38676603 | DOI:10.1080/14740338.2024.2348610 (Source: Expert Opinion on Drug Safety)

Hues of risk: investigating genotoxicity and environmental impacts of azo textile dyes
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 27. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33444-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe textile industry, with its extensive use of dyes and chemicals, stands out as a significant source of water pollution. Exposure to certain textile dyes, such as azo dyes and their breakdown products like aromatic amines, has been associated with health concerns like skin sensitization, allergic reactions, and even cancer in humans. Annually, the worldwide production of synthetic dyes approximates 7 × 107 tons, of which the textile industry accounts for over 10,000 tons. Inefficient dyeing procedures result in the di...
