The Ethics of Full Body Skin Exams (FBSE)
Full body skin examinations (FBSEs) are part of the purview of a dermatologic exam. Because this involves examination of sensitive or “intimate” areas, there are many ethical issues involved. Herein we discuss whether screening patients with a FBSE is ethical and consistent with the ethical tenet of distributive justice, how to ethically deal with our disabled patients, how to ethically navigate patients who have been emotiona lly or physically traumatized in the past, and the ethical ramifications of the use of a chaperone. Progress towards elimination of onchocerciasis in the < i > Region du Sud-Ouest < /i > of Burkina Faso which was previously subject to a recrudescence event after vector control
Conclusions/significanceThe endemicity of onchocerciasis infection in theSud-Ouest region has declined to low levels and seems to be progressing towards elimination. Our findings indicated that biannual CDTI is having good effect, but it should continue for a number of years to ensure elimination of transmission. However, progress towards elimination has a troublesome history in this region, and it would be advisable to select more sentinel villages to have confidence in any future epidemiological and entomological surveys, especially Stop-MDA surveys. With positive individuals migrating between countries, cross-border col...

Stigma experiences, effects and coping among individuals affected by Buruli ulcer and yaws in Ghana
Conclusions and significanceThe types and levels of stigma varied for BU and yaws. Stigma experiences also differed for adults and children in this setting and these differences should be accounted for in integrated interventions for these skin NTDs. School health programs need to prioritize educating school teachers about skin NTDs and the negative impact of stigma on the wellbeing of children. (Source: PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases)

Immunization of turkeys with < i > Clostridium septicum < /i > alpha toxin-based recombinant subunit proteins can confer protection against experimental Clostridial dermatitis
by Feba Ann John, Valeria Criollo, Carissa Gaghan, Abigail Armwood, Jennifer Holmes, Anil J. Thachil, Rocio Crespo, Raveendra R. Kulkarni Clostridial dermatitis (CD), caused byClostridium septicum, is an emerging disease of increasing economic importance in turkeys. Currently, there are no effective vaccines for CD control. Here, two non-toxic domains ofC.septicum alpha toxin, namely ntATX-D1 and ntATX-D2, were identified, cloned, and expressed inEscherichia coli as recombinant subunit proteins to investigate their use as potential vaccine candidates. Experimental groups consisted of a Negative control (NCx) that did not ...

Knowledge and competences in hematological malignancies amongst radiation oncology residents in Germany —results from a national survey
ConclusionThis survey highlights the diversity of resident education regarding hematological malignancies in German radiation oncology programs. Knowledge gaps exist in key areas, including pediatric cases and specialized techniques. Competence-based education, interactive teaching formats, and rotations to specialized centers are potential strategies to address these gaps. The study contributes to the understanding of the federal educational landscape, underscoring the need for standardized and comprehensive training to ensure optimal patient care in hematological malignancies within the context of radiation oncology. An algorithmic approach to scalp reconstructive surgery: maximization of cosmetic and functional outcomes
Conclusion: While many reconstructive surgical options are available, the best ones will depend on individual presentation of scalp defects. Location and size are first line considerations while local scalp anatomy will allow for tailoring of reconstructive options. This will help to maximize cosmetic and aesthetic considerations. Definition of refractory melasma and its treatment: a review
In conclusion, we were able to provide a rough definition of refractory melasma and list the available therapies. According to the literature, the most prevalent treat ment is laser combination therapy. However, laser treatment should be considered only after topical agents and chemical peeling have failed. Considering its side effects, efficacy, and safety, oral TXA may be a better option, but more research is needed to make a firm conclusion. Moreover, maintenan ce therapy is required after treatment.
