Human herpesvirus type 6 in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus
CONCLUSION: Although patients with SLE had a higher prevalence of HHV-6 compared with healthy people, there is no strong link between HHV-6 infection and SLE. Future research is necessary because this data does not support the hypothesis that human herpesvirus 6 plays a role in the pathogenesis of SLE.PMID:38682068 | PMC:PMC11055447 | DOI:10.18502/ijm.v16i1.14883 (Source: Iranian Journal of Microbiology)

Comparison of Intralesional Sodium Stibogluconate versus Intralesional Meglumine Antimoniate for the Treatment of Leishmania major Cutaneous Leishmaniasis
In conclusion, the 2 different medications have the same efficacy and safety for treating cutaneous leishmaniasis. Pentavalent antimoniate intralesional infiltration treatment is safe, effective, and well tolerated with minimal side effects for Old-World cutaneous leishmaniasis.PMID:38682801 | DOI:10.2340/actadv.v104.35089 (Source: Acta Derm Venereol A...)

Spitz tumour with ALK rearrangement: A case report and literature review
Malays J Pathol. 2024 Apr;46(1):103-108.ABSTRACTSpitz tumour with ALK rearrangement is a recently described entity and a rare tumour. The incidence of Spitz tumour was estimated at 3.63 per 100,000 persons in American paediatric population; while there is no data in Asian population. Here we reported a case of an eleven-year-old Asian boy who presented with a left shin nodule of two months' duration. The skin biopsy revealed a Spitz tumour with predominantly spindle cell morphology arranged in fascicles, vertically orientated nests and radial growth pattern. Junctional component, melanin pigment or Kamino bodies were not i...

A reinterpretation of human breast anatomy includes all the layers of the anterior body wall
Anat Rec (Hoboken). 2024 Apr 29. doi: 10.1002/ar.25456. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMammary glands define mammals as a group, yet a comprehensive anatomical description of the mammary gland does not exist for almost any mammalian species. In humans, the anatomical and surgical literature provide conflicting and incomplete descriptions of the gross anatomy of the breast. We dissected 9 male and 15 female human body donors to clarify this gross anatomy. We found that, like other epidermally derived glands of the body, the mammary glandular tissue is constrained to a membrane-bound, central structure referred to as the corp...

A new mechanism in negative pressure wound therapy: interleukin-17 alters chromatin accessibility profiling
In this study, skin wound-healing models were established, with administration of NPWT. Vimentin, collagen I, and MMP9 of skin tissues were detected by immunofluorescence (IF). Gene expression analysis of skin wound tissues was performed by RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq). Protein expression was assayed by a western blotting or IF assay, and mRNA levels were quantified by quantitative PCR. Chromatin accessibility profiles of fibroblasts following NPWT or IL-17 exposure were analyzed by ATAC-seq. In rat wound-healing models, NPWT promoted wound repair by promoting re-epithelialization, extracellular matrix (ECM) synthesis and prol...

Clinical course and disease burden of patients with generalized pustular psoriasis in Portugal: a multicenter retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates that GPP is a chronic, debilitating condition associated with systemic involvement, frequent flares, and hospitalizations, despite receiving multiple systemic treatments. Improved disease awareness and new treatments are needed to improve patient care and decrease the burden of the disease.PMID:38684228 | DOI:10.1080/09546634.2024.2345728 (Source: Journal of Dermatological Treatment)

Unexpected discovery of renal mass in a patient with granulomatosis with polyangiitis: accidental or inevitable?
Clin Exp Rheumatol. 2024 Apr;42(4):905-913. doi: 10.55563/clinexprheumatol/ql3zzz. Epub 2024 Apr 8.ABSTRACTGranulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is an uncommon disorder that mainly involves the upper and lower respiratory tract and kidney, presenting as sinusitis, saddle nose, otitis media, pulmonary nodule and cavity, rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis. It also affects skin, eye, heart, joint and nervous system. Renal involvement in GPA is commonly manifested as necrotising glomerulonephritis, while renal mass is very rare. We herein present two hospitalised cases with fever, pulmonary cavity and renal mass. Clinical...
