Vestibulodynia: Clinical characteristics, first-line treatments, and factors associated with escalation of treatment with EMG-guided injections of botulinum toxin in a retrospective french cohort study
CONCLUSION: Our study highlights the current lack of efficacy of first-line treatments in vestibulodynia. Considering the high prevalence of muscular dysfunction, botulinum toxin injections are of particular interest despite a lack of randomized controlled trials in this indication.PMID:38678773 | DOI:10.1016/j.annder.2024.103277 (Source: Annales de Dermatologie et de Cenereologie)

[Translated article] Retrospective study of home antibiotic infusion therapy using elastomeric infusion pumps
CONCLUSIONS: Outpatient antimicrobial therapy in elastomeric infusion pumps is an alternative in patients requiring prolonged intravenous treatment, and age is not a conditioning factor for inclusion in these programs. However, the presence of certain comorbidities can negatively affect the clinical course and mortality of patients.PMID:38679534 | DOI:10.1016/j.farma.2024.03.011 (Source: Farmacia Hospitalaria)

Puerarin enhances TFEB-mediated autophagy and attenuates ROS-induced pyroptosis after ischemic injury of random-pattern skin flaps
CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: Puerarin promoted flap survival from ischemic injury through upregulation of TFEB-mediated autophagy and inhibition of oxidative stress. Our findings offered valuable support for the clinical application of Puerarin in the treatment of ischemic diseases, including random-pattern flaps.PMID:38679118 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejphar.2024.176621 (Source: European Journal of Pharmacology)

Approach for contact medical device development via integrated testing, skeletal muscle modeling, and finite element analysis
J Mech Behav Biomed Mater. 2024 Apr 16;155:106541. doi: 10.1016/j.jmbbm.2024.106541. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDevelopment of novel medical devices for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain associated with neuro-muscular trigger points requires a model for relating the mechanical responses of in vivo biological tissues to applied palliative physical pressures and a method to design treatments for optimal effects. It is reasonable to hypothesize that the efficacy of therapeutic treatment is proportional to the maximum tensile strain at trigger point locations. This work presents modeling of the mechanical behavior of bi...

Mesenchymal stromal/stem cells promote intestinal epithelium regeneration after chemotherapy-induced damage
CONCLUSIONS: Collectively, we demonstrate that our in vitro co-culture system is a new valuable tool to facilitate the investigation of the molecular mechanisms behind the therapeutic effects of MSCs on damaged intestinal epithelium. This could benefit further optimization of the use of MSCs in HSCT patients.PMID:38679715 | DOI:10.1186/s13287-024-03738-9 (Source: Cell Research)

KoCVAM-led Development of Phototoxicity Alternative Test Method using Reconstructed Human Epidermis model (KeraSkin ™)
Food Chem Toxicol. 2024 Apr 26:114698. doi: 10.1016/j.fct.2024.114698. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhototoxicity is an acute toxic reaction induced by topical skin exposure to photoreactive chemicals followed by exposure to environmental light and thus chemicals that absorb UV are recommended to be evaluated for phototoxic potential. There are currently three internationally harmonized alternative test methods for phototoxicity. One of them is the in vitro Phototoxicity: RhE Phototoxicity test method (OECD TG498). Korean center for the Validation of Alternative Methods (KoCVAM) developed an in vitro phototoxicity test me...
