No effect of liraglutide on high density lipoprotein apolipoprotein AI kinetics in patients with type 2 diabetes
CONCLUSION: Six months of treatment with 1.2 mg/day of liraglutide had no effect on the kinetics of HDL apoAI in patients with T2D. The lack of decrease in triglyceride content in HDL related to an only moderate decrease in triglyceridemia, probably greatly explains these results. Insufficient improvement of insulin sensitivity and adiponectinemia may also be implied.PMID:38653365 | DOI:10.1016/j.diabet.2024.101535 (Source: Diabetes and Metabolism)

Differential age-specific associations of LDL cholesterol and body mass index with coronary heart disease
CONCLUSIONS: There were differential age-specific associations of LDLc and BMI with the risk of developing CHD, calling for future efforts to discriminate the age-different benefits from lipids management or weight control on the primary prevention for CHD.PMID:38652975 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2024.117542 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Rhythm gene PER1 mediates ferroptosis and lipid metabolism through SREBF2/ALOX15 axis in polycystic ovary syndrome
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that the rhythm gene PER1 promotes ferroptosis and dysfunctional lipid metabolism in granulosa cells in PCOS by inhibiting SREBF2/ALOX15 signaling.PMID:38653359 | DOI:10.1016/j.bbadis.2024.167182 (Source: Biochimica et Biophysica Acta)

Effects of bile acid metabolism on intestinal health of livestock and poultry
AbstractBile acids are synthesised in the liver and are essential amphiphilic steroids for maintaining the balance of cholesterol and energy metabolism in livestock and poultry. They can be used as novel feed additives to promote fat utilisation in the diet and the absorption of fat-soluble substances in the feed to improve livestock performance and enhance carcass quality. With the development of understanding of intestinal health, the balance of bile acid metabolism is closely related to the composition and growth of livestock intestinal microbiota, inflammatory response, and metabolic diseases. GSE254105 Alternate high fat diet aggravates atherosclerosis through an IL1B- 2 dependent reprogramming of neutrophil progenitors
Contributors : Jean-R émi Lavillegrand ; Marc Diedisheim ; Hafid Ait-OufellaSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Mus musculusSystemic immune responses induced by chronic hypercholesterolemia contribute to the initiation, progression and complications of atherosclerosis. However, it is common for individuals to change dietary habits over time. The consequences of an alternating high fat diet and the associated variations in plasma cholesterol levels on atherosclerosis are unknown. To address this relevant issue, we developed a novel protocol in atherosclerosis-prone mice that allowe...

Clinico-haematobiochemical and cardiac alterations in Trypanosoma evansi infected buffaloes of Andhra Pradesh, India
AbstractThe present research aimed to document the incidence, clinical signs, haematological, and serum biochemical alterations, as well as electrocardiography and echocardiography findings in 62 buffaloes (selected from a total of 240) infected withTrypanosoma evansi. The study spanned one year, from January 2022 to December 2022. Morphological identification ofTrypanosoma evansi was done by the presence of a centrally positioned nucleus with a small sub-terminal kinetoplast at the posterior position through microscopic examination of Giemsa stained peripheral blood smears. The incidence of trypanosomosis were determined ...

Overcoming Barriers to Implementation: Improving Incidental Coronary Calcium Reporting on Non-EKG Gated Chest CT Scans
The 2018 AHA/ACC Multisociety Blood Cholesterol Guideline1 states that the use of coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring is reasonable to inform statin therapy decision-making in those borderline or intermediate-risk patients with uncertainty about the need for statin therapy after consideration of risk-enhancing factors. The basis for its use rests on its ability to improve discrimination and reclassify risk as compared to that derived from risk equations based on traditional atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk factors. The Triglyceride-Glucose Index is Superior to Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance in predicting Metabolic Syndrome in an Adult Population in the United States
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) defined by a set of cardio-metabolic features is associated with an increased risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)[1-3]. Its individual components include an elevated waist circumference [WC], increased triglycerides [TG], low levels of high density lipoprotein cholesterol [HDL-C], elevated fasting glucose and high blood pressure [1 –3]. It is a major global problem with no optimum treatment. (Source: Journal of Clinical Lipidology)

Association of KLOTHO gene variants with metabolic and renal function parameters in Mexican patients living with type 2 diabetes
ConclusionIn Mexican patients living with type 2 diabetes,KL variant rs9536314 was found associated with low odds of hypo-HDL cholesterol, albuminuria and presence of CKD. Meanwhile the consensus of soluble KLOTHO measurement is reached, genetic variants in theKL gene could be considered as genetic markers for CKD susceptibility in patients at high-risk of vascular complications. Phenomewide Association Study of Health Outcomes Associated With the Genetic Correlates of 25 Hydroxyvitamin D Concentration and Vitamin D Binding Protein Concentration
We examined the predictive properties of PGS25OHD, and two scores related to DBP concentration with respect to 1322 health-related phenotypes and 315 laboratory-measured phenotypes from electronic health records. In those with European ancestry: (a) the PGS25OHD and PGSDBP scores, and individual SNPs rs4588 and rs7041 were associated with both 25OHD concentration and 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D concentrations; (b) higher PGS25OHD was associated with decreased concentrations of triglycerides and cholesterol, and reduced risks of vitamin D deficiency, disorders of lipid metabolism, and diabetes. In general, the findings for the ...

Establishment of pregnancy-specific lipid reference intervals in pregnant women in a single-centre and assessment of the predictive value of early lipids for gestational diabetes mellitus: a prospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: This study established pregnancy-specific lipid RI for pregnant women in a single centre in the Beijing area of China. Pregnant women with TG ≥ 2.375 mmol/L in the first trimester were at significantly increased risk for GDM.PMID:38646991 | DOI:10.5603/ep.98554 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)
