Efficacy and effect on lipid profiles of Ainuovirine-based regimen versus Efavirenz-based regimen in treatment-na ïve people with HIV-1 at week 24: A real-world, retrospective, multi-center cohort study
This study aimed to compare the efficacy and effect on lipid profiles of Ainuovirine (ANV)- and efavirenz (EFV) -based regimens in treatment-naïve people living with HIV-1 (PLWH) at week 24. The proportion of PLWH achieving HIV-1 RNA < the limit of quantification in the ANV group was significantly higher than that in the EFV group (89.18% vs. 76.04%, P = 0.002). The mean change of log10 HIV-1 RNA from baseline was greater (-4.34 vs. -4.18, P < 0.001), the median change from baseline in CD4+ T cell count increased more (106.00 cells/μL vs. 92.00 cells/μL, P = 0.007) in the ANV group, while the CD4+/CD8+ ratio was s...

Twin Study: The Factors Affecting the Serum LDL-C and HDL-C Levels and an RNA-Seq Analysis in Mononuclear Cells in Monozygotic Twins
CONCLUSION: We identified the factors affecting the LDL-C or HDL-C levels in monozygotic twins. In addition, some types of inflammatory gene expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells were suppressed in accordance with the HDL-C levels, thus suggesting the importance of weight management and exercise habits in addition to dietary instructions to control the LDL-C or HDL-C levels.PMID:38684403 | DOI:10.5551/jat.64882 (Source: Journal of Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis)

Preclinical safety evaluation of the ethanolic extract from < em > campomanesia guazumifolia < /em > (cambess.) O. Berg fruits peels in rats
Nat Prod Res. 2024 Apr 29:1-5. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2024.2347447. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe toxicological potential of the ethanolic extract from Campomanesia guazumifolia (EECG), a species traditionally recognised for its antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory and hypercholesterolemic properties, was investigated in acute and subacute toxicity models in rats. In the acute toxicity test, 2000 mg/kg of EECG was administered orally in female rats, while male and female rats received 250, 500 or 750 mg/kg of EECG for the subacute toxicity test. No evidence of toxicity was observed in the animals acutely exposed, indicating ...

Advancements in steroidal Pt(II) & amp; Pt(IV) derivatives for targeted chemotherapy (2000-2023)
Eur J Med Chem. 2024 Apr 20;271:116438. doi: 10.1016/j.ejmech.2024.116438. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOne of the key strategies in chemotherapy involves crosslinking the DNA strands of cancer cells to impede their replication, with platinum (Pt) coordination compounds being a prominent class and cisplatin being its major representative. Steroidal ligands tethered to DNA interactive Pt core act as drug carriers for targeted therapy. While crosslinking of nuclear or mitochondrial DNA strands using coordination complexes has been studied for years, there remains a lack of comprehensive reviews addressing the advancements m...

Ameliorative effects of < em > Myrtus communis < /em > L. extract involving the inhibition of oxidative stress on high fat diet-induced testis damage in rats
In conclusion, HFD caused alterations in sperm parameters and testicular morphology by increasing oxidative damage and apoptosis. MC extract may have potential protective effects by inhibiting oxidative damage.PMID:38682543 | DOI:10.1080/10520295.2024.2344491 (Source: Biotechnic and Histochemistry)

Effects of Multi-species Synbiotic Supplementation on Circulating miR-27a, miR-33a Levels, and Lipid Parameters in Adult Men with Dyslipidemia; A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial
This study aimed to investigate the effects of synbiotic supplementation on circulating miR-27a, miR-33a, and lipid parameters in patients with dyslipidemia. Fifty-six eligible participants were randomly allocated to receive either synbiotic or placebo sachets twice a day for 12 weeks. Each synbiotic sachet contained 3×1010 CFU six species of probiotic microorganisms and 5 grams of inulin and fructooligosaccharide (FOS) as prebiotics. Serum miR-27a and miR-33a expression levels, serum lipids, and apolipoproteins, the fecal concentration of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), and Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes phyla were assess...

Improved adherence to statin treatment and differences in results between men and women after pictorial risk communication-a sub-study of the VIPVIZA RCT
CONCLUSIONS: Both men and women were receptive to pictorial information regarding CVD risk, but the intervention effect was more pronounced in women. Sex differences are important when considering risk communication strategies. Periodically repeating the intervention was beneficial for maintaining the intervention effect over time.TRIAL REGISTRATION: The VIPVIZA study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov , May 8, 2013, number NCT01849575.PMID:38684558 | DOI:10.1007/s00228-024-03694-6 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Influence of the Type of Disability and Sporting Discipline on Lipid Profile in a Cohort of Italian Paralympic Athletes
In conclusion, dyslipidemia is the most common CV risk factor in the Paralympics, affecting 35% of athletes, with only mild lipid changes over a medium-term time. The type of disability and sporting discipline has an impact on lipids, improving HDL and reducing LDL, with a better profile observed in NSCI and endurance athletes.PMID:38682709 | DOI:10.1016/j.amjcard.2023.09.118 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Pharmacotherapeutic Potential of Bitter Gourd ( < em > Momordica charantia < /em > ) in Age-related Neurological Diseases
J Integr Neurosci. 2024 Apr 23;23(4):86. doi: 10.31083/j.jin2304086.ABSTRACTDue to the growth of the elderly population, age-related neurological disorders are an increasing problem. Aging begins very gradually and later leads to several neurological issues such as lower neurotransmitter levels, oxidative stress, neuronal inflammation, and continual neuronal loss. These changes might contribute to brain disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), dementia or mild cognitive impairment, and epilepsy and glioma, and can also aggravate these disorders if they were previously present. Momordica charantia (bitter gourd), a membe...
