Ginseng polysaccharide components attenuate obesity and liver lipid accumulation by regulating fecal microbiota and hepatic lysine degradation
In this study, we found that PGP inhibited the high-fat diet (HFD)-induced weight gain, fat ratio and fat tissue weight after 8-week administration. Serum and liver lipid analysis showed that PGP decreased the levels of triglyceride and total cholesterol, which was mediated by the inhibition of key genes for fatty acid and cholesterol metabolisms. Metabolomics studies showed that the inhibitory effect of PGP on liver lipid accumulation was significantly correlated with its regulation of citric acid cycle and lysine degradation. PGP regulated the expression of genes related to lysine degradation in both liver tissue and hep...

Ultrasonic-assisted extraction of polysaccharide from Paeoniae Radix alba: Extraction optimization, structural characterization and antioxidant mechanism in vitro
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Apr 25:131816. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131816. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPaeoniae Radix alba is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, immunomodulatory, cancer, and other diseases. In the current study, the yield of Paeoniae Radix alba polysaccharide (PRP) was significantly increased with optimal ultrasound-assisted extraction compared to hot water extraction. Further, an acidic polysaccharide (PRP-AP) was isolated from PRP after chromatographic separation and was characterized as a typical pectic polysaccharide with side chains of arabinogal...

Examination of eating competence in a geo-diverse sample with metabolic syndrome
Appetite. 2024 Apr 25:107373. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2024.107373. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEating competence (EatC) is an intra-individual approach to eating attitudes and behaviors associated with greater well-being. EatC research has not included persons with confirmed metabolic syndrome (MetS). Therefore, EatC of persons with MetS was explored to identify unique associations and inform implementation of MetS lifestyle interventions using baseline data from a multisite, randomized trial of a 2-year lifestyle intervention with MetS. EatC, measured with the Satter Eating Competence Inventory 2.0 (ecSI 2.0™), was exami...

LXR Agonist T0901317's Hepatic Impact Overrules Its Atheroprotective Action in Macrophages, Driving Early Atherogenesis in Chow-Diet-Fed Male Apolipoprotein E Knockout Mice
In conclusion, these findings highlight that the pro-atherogenic hepatic effects of LXR agonism are dominant over the anti-atherogenic effects in macrophages in determining the overall atherosclerosis outcome under low-fat diet feeding conditions. A low-fat diet experimental setting, as compared to the commonly used high-fat-diet-based preclinical setup, thus appears more sensitive in uncovering the potential relevance of the off-target liver effects of novel anti-atherogenic therapeutic approaches that target macrophage LXR.PMID:38672446 | DOI:10.3390/biom14040429 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Correlations between preoperative statin treatment with short- and long-term survival following colorectal cancer surgery: a propensity score-matched national cohort study
ConclusionAlthough a subgroup of patients with a preoperative exposure time of 90  days showed statistically significant better overall survival, we found no statistically significant association between statin exposure 1 year before colorectal cancer surgery and overall survival. A nonlinear relationship between the triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio and stroke risk: an analysis based on data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study
The connection between triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio and stroke risk is controversial. Our goal was to explore this relationship in individuals aged 45 and older enroll... (Source: Diabetology and Metabolic Syndrome)
