Tumorigenesis of basal muscle invasive bladder cancer was mediated by PTEN protein degradation resulting from SNHG1 upregulation
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings, for the first time, demonstrate that overexpressed SNHG1 competes with USP8 for binding to HUR. This competition attenuates USP8 mRNA stability and protein expression, leading to PTEN protein degradation, consequently, this process drives urothelial cell malignant transformation and fosters BMIBC growth and primary BMIBC formation.PMID:38365726 | DOI:10.1186/s13046-024-02966-4 (Source: Cell Research)

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells from tumour-bearing mice induce the population expansion of CD19 < sup > hi < /sup > Fc γRIIb < sup > hi < /sup > regulatory B cells via PD-L1
Immunology. 2024 Feb 8. doi: 10.1111/imm.13763. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMyeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) increase in number and gain immunosuppressive functions in tumours and many other pathological conditions. MDSCs are characterized by their strong T-cell immunosuppressive capacity. The effects that MDSCs may have on B cells, especially within the tumour microenvironment, are less well understood. Here, we report that either monocytic MDSCs or polymorphonuclear MDSCs can promote increases in interleukin (IL)-10-expressing CD19hi FcγRIIbhi regulatory B cells in vitro and in vivo. Malignancy in the public life: the story of Hubert Humphrey ’s bladder cancer
Hubert Horatio Humphrey was the 38th Vice President of the United States and a political leader on the national scene for 30 years. In 1967 he developed hematuria and many years later was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He was treated with radiation, surgical resection and chemotherapy but died in 1978 from metastatic transitional cell carcinoma. This manuscript reviews Humphrey ’s political career, his medical history and how information about his medical condition was used in the lay press. (Source: Urology)

Recent Progress in the Application of Exosome Analysis in Ovarian Cancer Management
Curr Cancer Drug Targets. 2024 Jan 25. doi: 10.2174/0115680096281906231213055422. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExosomes are very small (nano-sized) vesicles participating in tumor development by involvement in intercellular communication mediated by transferring biocomponents. Exosomes appear to play vital roles in various cancer development, such as ovarian cancer, a common malignancy in women. Several hallmarks of ovarian cancer are reported to be affected by the exosome-- mediated cellular cross-talk, including modulating peritoneal dissemination and chemoresistance. Since the expression of some biomolecules, such as m...

A concept analysis of transitional care for people with cancer
This study aimed to analyse the concept of transitional care for people with cancer.DesignRodgers' evolutionary concept analysis.MethodsA systematic literature search was conducted on the databases of PubMed (including MEDLINE), EMBASE, Scopus and Web of Science to retrieve articles published between 2000 and 2022.ResultsTwenty-nine eligible articles were selected and their findings were classified in terms of related concepts and alternative terms, antecedents, attributes and consequences. Attributes included three main categories, namely ‘nurse-related attributes’, ‘organisation-related attributes’ and ‘patient...

GSE244534 Spatial Transcriptomics of Pancreatic Tumors Reveal Distinct Compartmentalisation of Neutrophil Subsets [Spatial Transcriptomics]
Contributors : Melissa S Ng ; Immanuel Kwok ; Leonard Tan ; Yingrou Tan ; Shih Changming ; Mengwei Li ; Nicholas Ang ; Jinmiao Chen ; Laiguan NgSeries Type : OtherOrganism : Mus musculusNeutrophils are increasingly recognized as key players in the tumour immune response, and are associated with poor clinical outcomes. Multiple studies have characterised various neutrophil states within the tumor, with associated pro- and anti- tumoral functions. However, it is unknown if this heterogeneity of neutrophils is contributed by their surrounding tumor microenivironment. To answer this, we performed 10X Visium spatial tra...

Alkaloids from Corydalis saxicola and their antiproliferative activity against cancer cells
Fitoterapia. 2023 Dec 28:105791. doi: 10.1016/j.fitote.2023.105791. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEight undescribed alkaloids named corydalisine D-K (1-7), including one isoquinoline benzopyranone alkaloid (1), one benzocyclopentanone alkaloid (2), four benzofuranone alkaloids (3, 4, and 5a/5b) and two protoberberine alkaloids (6 and 7), along with fourteen known ones, were isolated from the Corydalis saxicola. Their structures, including absolute configurations, were unambiguously identified using spectroscopic techniques, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and electron circular dichroism calculation. Compounds 2, 14 and 21...

Clinico-demographic Profile of Carcinoma Urinary Bladder —5-Year Experience from a Tertiary Care Centre of Eastern India
In this study, we analysed the clinico-demographic profile of patients with urinary bladder carcinoma, attending a tertiary care centre in Eastern India over the last 5  years. We analysed the database of Oncology OPD of a tertiary care centre in West Bengal in Eastern India and collected the demographic, clinical and treatment data of urinary bladder carcinoma patients who attended our OPD between 2017 and 2021. The objective was to assess the demographic and cli nical profile of these patients and compare them with those reported from other parts of India as well as the rest of the world. Majority of patients (70%) were...

Human polyomaviruses JCPyV and MCPyV in urothelial cell carcinoma: a single institution experience
ConclusionOur findings show the presence of JCPyV in the urine and UCC of immunocompetent patients. Moreover, MCPyV was detected in two UCC cases. In total, five UCC cases showed the presence of either JCPyV or MCPyV. The evidence here supports the hypothesis that these viruses might sporadically be associated with UCC. Further studies are needed to confirm the relevance of JCPyV or MCPyV as a possible risk factor for UCC development. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Transitional Epidemiology of Human Papillomavirus Infection in Iran: A Cross-Sectional Study and National Review
CONCLUSION: The hypothesis of the impact of behavioral and cultural changes in addition to population aging on general health indicates the need for national health promotion strategies. Additionally, it emphasizes the critical significance of conducting further investigational studies to obtain the actual and updated prevalence of HPV in Iran.PMID:38073753 | PMC:PMC10699225 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_396_21 (Source: Adv Data)
