Correlation between androgen and estrogen receptor expression and clinicopathologic features in carcinoma urinary bladder
CONCLUSION: Our study has the largest sample size conducted on Indian population with results differing from previous studies conducted on western population. Estrogen receptor beta expression was significantly associated with small unifocal tumours and better DFS. Estrogen receptor alpha and androgen receptor expression were not found to be associated with the clinicopathologic features of the study population.PMID:37668795 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05348-z (Source: Cell Research)

Resection of Solitary Lung Metastasis of Urinary Tract Transitional Cell Cancer Can Prolong Survival in Selected Patients
In this study, we examined the long-term outcome and the prognostic survival factors associated with pulmonary metastasectomy of urinary tract TCC, as based on our centre's 20-year experience. Between 2000 and 2020, curative pulmonary metastasectomy was performed in 18 patients (14 males and 4 females). Clinical, demographical and surgical data were retrospectively analysed. The disease-free interval between treatment of the primary tumour and pulmonary metastasectomy ranged from one to 48 months. Survival analysis was conducted with the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test. The 3- and 5-year survival rates were 84.7% and...

The influence of anti-cancer therapies on lymphocyte subpopulations of lung cancer patients
ConclusionsIn conclusion, this study suggests that different types of anti-cancer therapies affect lymphocyte subpopulations of NSCLC patients. Further large-scale and multicentre studies are required to confirm our results and to evaluate the prognostic value of lymphocyte subpopulations. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)

Differential functions of RhoGDI β in malignant transformation and progression of urothelial cell following N-butyl-N-(4-hydmoxybutyl) nitrosamine exposure
CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicate that RhoGDIβ is likely to inhibit the transformation of human urothelial cells during the early phase of BBN exposure, whereas it promotes invasion of the transformed/progressed urothelial cells in the late stage of BBN exposure. The studies also suggest that RhoGDIβ may be a useful biomarker for evaluating the progression of human bladder cancers.PMID:37635218 | DOI:10.1186/s12915-023-01683-2 (Source: Cancer Control)

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 3921: Retreatment with Cisplatin May Provide a Survival Advantage for Children with Relapsed/Refractory Hepatoblastoma: An Institutional Experience
Conclusions: Retreatment with cisplatin at the time of relapse may provide an advantage for some patients with hepatoblastoma. Multiply relapsed disease was not uncommon and not associated with a worse prognosis. Careful attention should be paid to cumulative therapy-induced toxicity while concurrently aiming to improve cure. (Source: Cancers)

A longitudinal study of transitions between smoking and smokeless tobacco use from the ITC Bangladesh Surveys: implications for tobacco control in the Southeast Asia region
This study tracks transitions of use among different product users (cigarettes, bidis, and SLT) in Bangladesh, one of the largest consumers of tobacco in the region, and examines factors related to transitions and cessation.METHODS: Four waves (2009-2015) of the International Tobacco Control (ITC) Bangladesh Survey with a cohort sample of 3245 tobacco users were analysed. Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE) models were used to explore the socioeconomic correlates of transitions from the exclusive use of cigarettes, bidis, or SLT to the use of other tobacco products or quitting over time.FINDINGS: Among exclusive cigaret...
