Definitions, outcomes and perspectives for oligometastatic bladder cancer: towards a standardized terminology
Curr Opin Urol. 2024 Mar 1. doi: 10.1097/MOU.0000000000001170. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF REVIEW: Oligometastatic (om) cancer is considered as a transitional state in between locally confined disease and widespread metastases, accessible to a multimodal treatment, combining systemic and local therapy. In urothelial bladder cancer (BCa), the definitions and the approaches to this condition are poorly standardised and mainly based on retrospective data. We aim to portray the framework for uro-oncologic terminology in omBCa and go through the latest evidence and the future perspectives.RECENT FINDINGS: Retrospec...

Functional and oncologic outcomes of prostate capsule-sparing radical cystectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Urol Oncol. 2024 Feb 27:S1078-1439(24)00009-7. doi: 10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.01.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRadical cystectomy (RC) is the gold standard treatment for patients with organ-confined bladder cancer. However, despite the success of this treatment, many men who undergo orthotopic neobladder substitution develop significant erectile dysfunction and urinary symptoms, including daytime and nighttime urinary incontinence. Prostate-capsule-sparing radical cystectomy (PCS-RC) with orthotopic neobladder (ONB) has been described in the literature as a surgical technique to improve functional outcomes in appropriate...

ONE SHOT - single shot radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer: 18-month results of a single arm, multicenter phase I/II trial
CONCLUSIONS: In this multicenter phase I/II trial, we demonstrated that a 19 Gy single-fraction urethra-sparing SBRT is feasible and associated with an acceptable toxicity rate, mostly returning to the baseline at week-12 and with a symptoms flare between months 12 and 18. Longer follow-up is needed to assess the potential long-term adverse effects and the disease control efficacy.PMID:38403022 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110181 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)

Complications Subsequent to Urinary Tract Stent Placement: An Overview Focusing on the Imaging of Cancer Patients
Medicina (Kaunas). 2024 Feb 19;60(2):338. doi: 10.3390/medicina60020338.ABSTRACTUreteral involvement by a tumor is common, and both partial and complete obstructions can result in symptoms that are distressing and debilitating, especially in cancer patients for whom the resection of the primary tumor is not considered an option. Maintaining ureteric patency in these patients is a challenge. In addition, in cases where a patient has undergone nephroureterectomy due to primary transitional cell cancer, it becomes necessary to decompress the urinary tract to preserve the contralateral kidney from irreversible damage. This is ...
