Multivariate Statistical Evaluation of 20 Metals/Metalloid Levels in the Serum of Patients with Prostate Gland Diseases
This study elucidates the imbalances of the elements with BPH/PC patients and healthy subjects. For multiple comparisons, Bonferroni test was applied and principal component analysis was performed for measuring the multiple metals/metalloid exposure. Mean concentrations of Al, Cr, Pb, Cd, Na, Ni and K were found higher significantly (p <  0.05) in the serum of BPH patients compared with healthy controls, while average levels of Sb, Al, Cd, As, Mn, Sr, K and Pb were significantly (p <  0.05) elevated in PC patients than controls. The correlation patterns revealed significantly different mutual associations amo...

Testing the external validity of the POUT III trial (adjuvant platnium-based chemotherapy in upper tract urothelial carcinoma) in a North American cohort
CONCLUSIONS: While the primary disease stage was similar, the rate of advanced nodal disease was significantly higher in NCDB, which might be explained partially by the more extensive lymph node dissection performed in the latter. These differences warrant caution when applying the POUT III findings to North American patients.PMID:38522975 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.01.035 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Effects of transitional care interventions on quality of life in people with lung cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: This study shows that transitional care interventions can improve quality of life and reduce symptoms in patients, and that primarily educational interventions based on symptom management theory appeared to be more effective. But, there was no statistically significant effect on anxiety and depression.RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: This study provides references for the application of transitional care interventions in the field of lung cancer care, and encourages nurses and physicians to apply transitional care plans to facilitate patients' safe transition from hospital to home.PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION...

Differential expression of WNT5A long and short isoforms in non-muscle-invasive bladder urothelial carcinoma
In conclusion, both WNT5A-S and WNT5A-L isoforms are expressed in UC, and the percentage of their expression levels suggests that a higher proportion of WNT5A-S transcription may be associated with lamina propria invasion, a process preceding muscle invasion.PMID:38445662 | DOI:10.14670/HH-18-723 (Source: Histology and Histopathology)

Chemotherapy-related symptoms in children with leukemia: application of latent profile analysis and network analysis
ConclusionThere exists heterogeneity in chemotherapy-related symptoms. Four subgroups and their corresponding characteristics of children with varying symptom severity were identified. Identifying these subgroups will facilitate personalized care, maximize intervention effectiveness, and alleviate symptom burden. (Source: Supportive Care in Cancer)

A phase 2 pilot study of water irrigation after transurethral resection of bladder tumor (WATIP) demonstrating safety, feasibility and activity
ConclusionWater irrigation during and after TURBT is feasible and safe. Prospective assessment of its effect on NMIBC recurrence compared to post-TURBT intravesical chemotherapy is needed before recommending its use in routine clinical practice.Trial registration ANZCTR registration ID ACTRN12619000517178 on 1 April 2019. Long-term prognosis after stapled and hand-sewn ileal pouch –anal anastomoses for familial adenomatous polyposis: a multicenter retrospective study
ConclusionStapled ileal pouch –anal anastomosis negatively affected the overall survival of familial adenomatous polyposis patients. Therefore, hand-sewn ileal pouch–anal anastomosis is recommended for better prognosis in these patients. (Source: International Journal of Colorectal Disease)
