Importin 7 enhances protective autophagy induced by nuclear translocation of homeobox A10 in oral squamous cell carcinoma
This study aimed to explore the function and mechanism of IPO7 in OSCC. IPO7 expression in tissues and cells was determined by RT-qPCR. Cell proliferative, migratory, and invasive capabilities were detected through transwell assay and colony formation assay. Mice xenograft models were established for evaluating tumor growth. Autophagy was estimated by the LC3 levels in cells through western blot and immunofluorescence (IF). Western blot was utilized to detect the key proteins in PERK/EIF2AK3/ATF4 pathway for assessing the endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS). The interaction of IPO7 and homeobox A10 (HOXA10) was tested by GS...

Diagnostic and therapeutic use of oral micronized progesterone in endocrinology
Rev Endocr Metab Disord. 2024 Apr 23. doi: 10.1007/s11154-024-09882-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTProgesterone is a natural steroid hormone, while progestins are synthetic molecules. In the female reproductive system, progesterone contributes to the control of luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone secretion and their pulsatility, via its receptors on the kisspeptin, neurokinin B, and dynorphin neurons in the hypothalamus. Progesterone together with estradiol controls the cyclic changes of proliferation and decidualization of the endometrium; exerts anti-mitogenic actions on endometrial epithelial cells; r...

Systematic literature review of heavy metal contamination of the Nigerian environment from E-waste management: associated health and carcinogenic risk assessment
This study harmonizes primary data on HMs from e-waste in different Nigerian environmental media including the air, soil, surface dust, water and plant. We estimated the possible health implications, single and aggregative soil and water pollution indices in adult and children, carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks secondary to HM exposure and mapped out the possible mechanism of carcinogenesis. Analysis showed that soil, water, surface dust and plant matrices in Nigerian environment are variedly but considerably contaminated with combination of HMs. The significantly high values of the hazard quotient and hazard index o...

Sophorin mitigate flutamide-induced hepatotoxicity in Wistar rats
In this study, sophorin was used at a dose of 100mg/kg body weight in purified water via oral route for 4 week daily whereas, flutamide was used at a dose of 100mg kg/b.wt for 4 weeks daily in 0.5% carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC) through the oral route for the induction of hepatotoxicity. Flutamide administration leads to enhanced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, an imbalance in redox homeostasis and peroxidation of lipid resulted in reduced natural antioxidant level in liver tissue. Our result demonstrated that sophorin significantly abrogate flutamide induced lipid peroxidation, protein carbonyl (PC), and also sig...

Association between coca chewing (Erythroxylum coca) habit and oral squamous cell carcinoma. A case-control study from Argentina
Previous isolated reports have hypothesized that chewing coca leaves, a pre-Columbian tradition found in certain regions of South America, may be associated with the development of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Coca chewing (CC) is a habit that shares many characteristics with the well-known practice of betel chewing observed in Asia. The aim of this study is to analyze the association between CC and OSCC among patients who attended the Se ñor del Milagro Hospital in Salta, Argentina. Prevalence and implications of bilateral and solely contralateral lymph node metastases in oral squamous cell carcinoma
ConclusionsB/SC LNMs are rare in patients with OSCC, especially in those who present with clinico-radiologically negative ipsilateral necks. Higher rates of B/SC metastases occur in case of advanced tumors and those localized at the upper jaw or floor of the mouth. Ipsilateral LNMs significantly elevate the risk of contralateral LNMs, tripling the associated risk.Clinical relevanceThese findings provide valuable insights for surgeons considering contralateral ND or extended adjuvant treatment for OSCC patients. However, the absence of high-level evidence from randomized controlled trials impedes the establishment of a defi...
