Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1548: Oral Mucositis Management in Children under Cancer Treatment: A Systematic Review
ilva Children undergoing antineoplastic treatment often present severe side effects due to the dosage and duration of treatments, with oral mucositis emerging as one of the most prevalent and painful inflammatory conditions. There is a growing body of evidence on therapeutic interventions such as cryotherapy, low-level laser therapy, and natural compounds for this condition. The aim of this systematic review was to identify and compare therapies for the management of cancer treatment-induced oral mucositis in pediatric patients. From 2655 articles obtained in initial searches, 39 articles were considered in this system...

Role of Imaging in Predicting the Deep Surgical Margin in Gingivobuccal Complex Cancers: A Pilot Study
AbstractCancers arising from the gingivobuccal complex are one of the most common types of cancer in the oral cavity and are associated with poor prognosis. Among the various prognostic factors, positive surgical margin is the most important one that can be controlled by the operating surgeon. The deep surgical margins for buccal mucosa cancers is normally assessed by palpating the skin for induration and skin pinchability. The present study evaluates the role of imaging in assessing the deep surgical margin and its efficacy for skin preservation in buccal mucosa/ gingivobuccal carcinomas. The patients of gingivobuccal com...

Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA facile solvent-free solid-state method was adapted to synthesize the spherical-shaped Bi2WO6 engraved on phenyl-doped g-C3N4 nanosheet, i.e., Bi2WO6/Ph-gC3N4 (or BPCN) composites with varying weights of Bi2WO6. Several spectral analyses were used to characterize all the synthesized nanomaterials. The synthesized photocatalyst showed good absorption under visible light as confirmed by UV-visible DRS analysis. Morphological analyses like SEM and TEM determine the successful fabrication of binary heterocomposite. Further,...

A Prospective Cohort Study Exploring the Effect of Lenvatinib Planned Drug Holidays in Treatment of Differentiated Thyroid Cancer
Conclusions: Planned drug holidays for lenvatinib were associated with significantly improved clinical outcomes compared to daily oral administration. Further investigation of the optimal treatment schedule for lenvatinib is warranted. Transcutaneous carbon dioxide suppresses skeletal muscle atrophy in a mouse model of oral squamous cell carcinoma
In this study, we calculated fat-free body mass (FFM), defined as the skeletal muscle mass, and evaluated the expression of muscle atrophy markers and uncoupling protein markers as well as the cross-sectional area (CSA) to investigate whether transcutaneous application of CO2 to skeletal muscle could suppress skeletal muscle atrophy in cancer-bearing mice. Human oral squamous cell carcinoma was transplanted subcutaneously into the upper dorsal region of nude mice, and 1 week later, CO2 gas was applied to the legs twice a week for 4 weeks and FFM was calculated by bioimpedance spectroscopy. After the experiment concluded, t...

Model-Informed Assessment of Probability of Phase 3 Success for Ritlecitinib in Patients with Moderate-to-Severe Ulcerative Colitis
Clin Pharmacol Ther. 2024 Apr 16. doi: 10.1002/cpt.3251. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRitlecitinib, an oral Janus kinase 3/tyrosine kinase expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma family inhibitor, was evaluated in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) in a phase 2b trial. Model-informed drug development strategies were applied to bridge observations from phase 2b to predictions for a proposed phase 3 study design to assess the probability of achieving the target efficacy outcome. A longitudinal exposure-response model of the time course of the 4 Mayo subscores (rectal bleeding, stool frequency, physician's global assessment...

Quantum chemistry calculation-aided discovery of potent small-molecule mimics of glutathione peroxidases for the treatment of cisplatin-induced hearing loss
In this study, we employed the frontier molecular orbital (FMO) theory approach as a convenient prediction method for the glutathione peroxidase (GPx)-like activity of isoselenazolones and discovered new isoselenazolones with great GPx-like activity. Notably, compound 19 exhibited significant protective effects against cisplatin-induced hair cell (HC) damage in vitro and in vivo and effectively reverses cisplatin-induced hearing loss through oral administration. Further investigations revealed that this compound effectively alleviated hair cell oxidative stress, apoptosis and ferroptosis. This research highlights the poten...
