The emerging emetogenicity of trifluridine/tipiracil (TAS ‑102) from patient self-reporting: a multicenter, prospective, observational study
ConclusionsThe low incidence of vomiting and high patient satisfaction suggest that TAS-102 does not require the use of uniform prophylactic antiemetic treatments. However, patients with the experience of CINV in previous treatment might require prophylactic antiemetic treatment. (Source: Supportive Care in Cancer)

Genetics Plays an Increasingly Important Role in the Management of Plastic Surgical Patients
Genetics has played an increasingly important role in patient management over recent decades, with innovations improving the care of diseases ranging from breast cancer to sickle cell disease. This is also the case in plastic surgery, where genetics informs patient care and offers promising treatment opportunities (Table 1). Already, plastic surgeons leverage genetic innovations to supplement management decisions for some conditions including craniosynostosis, cleft lip and/or palate, and Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, among others. Can predictive factors determine the time to treatment initiation for oral and oropharyngeal cancer? A classification and regression tree analysis
by D ébora Rosana Alves Braga Silva Montagnoli, Vitória Ferreira Leite, Yasmim Silva Godoy, Vitória Marçolla Lafetá, Edmilson Antônio Pereira Junior, Akhilanand Chaurasia, Maria Cássia Ferreira Aguiar, Mauro Henrique Nogueira Guimarães Abreu, Renata Castro Martins This ecological study aimed to identify the factors with the greatest power to discriminate the proportion of oral and oropharyngeal cancer (OOC) records with time to treatment initiation (TTI) within 30 days of diagnosis in Brazilian municipalities. A descriptive analysis was performed on the var iables grouped into five dimensions related to patient ch...

Transcutaneous carbon dioxide suppresses skeletal muscle atrophy in a mouse model of oral squamous cell carcinoma
In this study, we calculated fat-free body mass (FFM), defined as the skeletal muscle mass, and evaluated the expression of muscle atrophy markers and uncoupling protein markers as well as the cross-sectional area (CSA) to investigate whether transcutaneous application of CO2 to skeletal muscle could suppress skeletal muscle atrophy in cancer-bearing mice. Human oral squamous cell carcinoma was transplanted subcutaneously into the upper dorsal region of nude mice, and 1 week later, CO2 gas was applied to the legs twice a week for 4 weeks and FFM was calculated by bioimpedance spectroscopy. After the experiment concluded, t...

An insight into clinicians ’ practices in breaking bad news of oral cancer diagnosis
Communication is an integral component of effective healthcare delivery to patients, and this includes breaking bad news (BBN). However, clinicians in dentistry are rarely exposed to diseases that can negatively and seriously affect an individual ’s view of their future and pose a mortality risk, except for oral cancer. The aim of this study was to assess clinician practices in BBN of oral cancer diagnosis in Malaysia. An exploratory sequential mixed-methods study design was used. A qualitative study was conducted among 12 clinicians to ga ther relevant information regarding their practices in BBN of oral cancer diagnosi...
