WAMC/School List: 3.4cGPA ~3.5sGPA (upward trend), ORM, OH Resident, 512 MCAT, Research Heavy
Hey guys, I was just wondering what my chances of getting into an MD school are this upcoming cycle. Additional information: - Senior biochem major, biology minor at R2 University. - Working in a materials science lab since the fall of 2021 (strong letter from PI; we get along well), 1 pub, 2 more before I leave, probably >3500 hours. 3 poster presentations, also. - Summer internship in a cancer research center, 1st author pub in a decent journal from my time there, poster and oral... Oral ketamine
Why isn’t oral ketamine commercially available? I use it, although quite sparingly mostly because it seems experimental at this point. I’m using it primarily for opioid resistant cancer pain, CRPS, neuropathic pain resistant to standard anti-epileptics, etc. I use a compounding pharmacy that makes it into sublingual troche or lozenge. Usually using 25 mg up to 100 mg BID. What are your experiences with oral ketamine? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Continuing narcotics via telemedicine
I have a patient treated with oral narcotics for cancer pain. They are apparently severely immunocompromised and requesting telemedicine visits. As I understand if I have seen patient in person initially this is an option however the Ryan Haight act is not crystal clear to me. I was planning on seeing in office every three months and telemedicine the months in between. I live in Texas. Is this legal? Should I call the DEA to double check this? ITP for generalized cancer pain?
Correct me if I’m wrong. I do not see how an ITP would likely cover generalized cancer pain. Im getting pressure from higher-ups (I’m employed) to utilize this modality. Does anyone have wild success with this for cancer pain? I’ve had a few cancer patients with ITPs and we’re still taking oral narcotic medications. Appreciate any advise or good literature sources. TIA! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

High-volume brachytherapy centers
Having a challenging localized penile cancer case. I think it might be amenable to brachytherapy. Are there any centers in the US doing these with good experience and volume? On the same topic, any place offering H&N brachytherapy for oral cavity cancers? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Can we finally ditch Coumadin?
ACP Journals Effectiveness and Safety of Direct Oral Anticoagulants Versus Warfarin in Patients With Valvular Atrial Fibrillation So we can use DOACs now for valvular Afib (See study above), we've been using DOACs for other VTEs, and recently shown to be safe in even cancer-related VTEs. Is there any reason (maybe poor renal function) to continue using warfarin? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Will researching in ENT/Plastics look weird to OMFS programs?
Hi all, I want to pursue OMFS and am currently trying to figure out what kind of research I should do to help my app. The obvious choice would be researching in my schools OMFS Department, however our program is not research oriented at all. In fact it is very rare for dental students to do research projects with our oral surgery staff. Additionally, the program is not as full scope and leans heavily towards dentoalveolar + some orthognathics. Head and neck cancer, cosmetics and trauma is... Oral mucositis
Guess no one commented much yesterday because of Mueller Report. Left you with a bad taste in your mouth? Magic mouthwash to the rescue. Or not. Does magic mouthwash help cancer patients with oral mucositis (OM)? No, it's useless and should "vanish into thin air." But now one trial shows magic mouthwash had statistically... Switching from one speciality to another
Just looking for opinions on a subject that I have been contemplating. I am currently in my last year of training in a graduate endodontic program. I enjoy working on root canals and do not regret the decision of leaving general dentistry, which I practiced for 5 years. But I have real passion for surgery and now contemplating going back (after I complete my current residency) for a 6 year program of oral surgery. I would like to do more of the procedures in a hospital setting (cancer,... Switching from one speciality to another (Source: Student Doctor Network)
