Current knowledge of ferroptosis in the pathogenesis and prognosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma
In this study, we performed a first attempt to collect the current evidence on the proposed roles of ferroptosis in OSCC through a comprehensive review. Based on clinical data from the relevant studies within this topic, we found that ferroptosis-associated tumor microenvironment, ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs), and ferroptosis-related lncRNAs exhibited a potent prognostic value for OSCC patients. Mechanistically, experimental data revealed that the proliferation and tumorigenesis of OSCC might be associated with the inhibition of cellular ferroptosis through the activation of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) and adipocyt...

French national survey on breast cancer care: caregiver and patient views
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides an updated analysis of breast cancer care pathways in France. Overall, the initial processes of diagnosis, announcement, and treatment were swift and were in agreement with the best care standards. No barriers to accessing care were identified. Based on the study findings, we proposed several strategies to improve the quality of care for patients in supportive care, coordination with primary care physicians, reconstructive surgery, and fertility preservation access.PMID:38635135 | DOI:10.1007/s12282-024-01576-4 (Source: Breast Cancer)

Salivary carcinoma showing thymus-like differentiation: clinicopathological analysis of 7 cases
Conclusions: Salivary CASTLE is a rare tumor, it should be distinguished from lymphoepithelial carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The patients often have better prognosis and CD5 protein expression has a valuable role in the differential diagnosis.PMID:38637002 | DOI:10.3760/cma.j.cn112144-20231211-00290 (Source: Shanghai Journal of Stomatology)

Re-irradiation versus systemic therapy for the management of local-regionally recurrent head and neck cancer
CONCLUSION: Although re-irradiation improved overall survival compared to systemic therapy for appropriately selected patients with local-regionally recurrent head and neck cancer, the relatively high risk of toxicity must be considered.PMID:38636710 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110278 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)

Number of Healthy Teeth Can Predict the Response of Rectal Cancer to Chemoradiotherapy: A Retrospective Study
This study is the first to identify a correlation between the number of healthy teeth, which is an oral health indicator, and the efficacy of preoperative chemotherapy for rectal cancer.METHODS: This retrospective single-center study included 30 patients who underwent radical surgery after preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) between December 2013 and June 2021. The relationship between number of teeth before CRT and the efficacy of CRT, CRT-related adverse events, postoperative complications, and long-term postoperative outcomes was examined.RESULTS: The number of healthy teeth was significantly greater in patients with d...

Lipid droplets functional protein caveolin-2 is associated with lipid metabolism-related molecule FABP5 and EMT marker E-cadherin in oral epithelial dysplasia
Conclusion In the oral epithelial carcinogenesis process, LDs begin to accumulate early in the precancerous stage. LDs may be the regulator of FABP5-associated lipid metabolism and may closely related to the process of EMT; caveolin-2 could be the main functional protein. (Source: Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1550: Precursor Lesions, Overdiagnosis, and Oral Cancer: A Critical Review
o Despite the profession placing great emphasis on oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) as a gateway for early recognition and consequently better outcomes for oral cancer, the death rates for lip and oral cavity cancer have remained stagnant for three decades. Evidence shows that only a small fraction of oral cancers are in fact preceded by OPMDs, and that most OPMDs have an annual transformation rate of less than 1%. As OPMDs encompass a very heterogeneous group of oral conditions, it could be argued that only patients with oral mucosal diseases bearing a substantial risk of malignant transformation warrant c...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1548: Oral Mucositis Management in Children under Cancer Treatment: A Systematic Review
ilva Children undergoing antineoplastic treatment often present severe side effects due to the dosage and duration of treatments, with oral mucositis emerging as one of the most prevalent and painful inflammatory conditions. There is a growing body of evidence on therapeutic interventions such as cryotherapy, low-level laser therapy, and natural compounds for this condition. The aim of this systematic review was to identify and compare therapies for the management of cancer treatment-induced oral mucositis in pediatric patients. From 2655 articles obtained in initial searches, 39 articles were considered in this system...
