Principal component analysis of phenotypic and breeding value data for semen traits in Egyptian buffalo bulls
This study was conducted to assess the relationship between the breeding values as well as the phenotypic values for semen traits (VOL, MM, LS, AS and CONC) of the Egyptian buffalo bulls. A total of 7761 normal semen ejaculates were collected and characterized at ILMTC laboratory from 26 bulls from 2009 to 2019. For VOL, MM, LS, AS, and CONC, the actual means were 3.89 mL, 62.37%, 60.64%, 3.94%, and 0.67  × 109 sperm/mL, respectively. The prediction of breeding values for semen traits was estimated using a Bayesian procedure. The estimated standardized EBVs and phenotypic values were used in the principal component an...

Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on HIV Test Uptake Among People Who Inject Drugs in the Context of an HIV Outbreak
In conclusion, progress in increasing testing in response to the HIV outbreak has been eroded by COVID-19. Adoption of a linked data approach could be warranted in other settings to inform efforts to eliminate HIV transmission. (Source: AIDS and Behavior)

External validation of a rapid algorithm using high-sensitivity troponin assay results for evaluating patients with suspected acute myocardial infarction
Conclusions A 2-hour algorithm based on the HighSTEACS strategy using the Siemens Atellica IM hs-cTnI laboratory-based assay enables safe and efficient risk assessment of emergency patients with suspected AMI. Trial registration number ACTRN12621000053820. (Source: Emergency Medicine Journal)

High-sensitivity troponin testing at the point of care for the diagnosis of myocardial infarction: a prospective emergency department clinical evaluation
In the ED, laboratory high-sensitivity cardiac troponin (hs-cTn) tests facilitate ‘rule-out’ of myocardial infarction (MI).1 Contemporary point-of-care (POC) troponin tests have inferior analytical sensitivity,2 preventing rapid ‘rule-out’ strategies in near-patient settings. The new Siemens Atellica VTLi POC test meets hs-cTn criteria.3 Between June and September 2022, adult ED patients (≥16 years) with symptoms suspicious for MI and no ST-segment elevation on ECG were eligible for inclusion if staff trained on the POC instrument were available. Simultaneously, blood was taken for near-patient t...

Determination of a whole-blood single-test low-risk threshold for a point-of-care high-sensitivity troponin assay
High-sensitivity troponin (hsTn) is used with ECG and clinical evaluation to stratify patients attending ED as low risk for acute myocardial infarctions (AMI). Diagnostic pathways incorporate a single test threshold for stratification with these assays. The Siemens Atellica VTLi Point-Of-Care-hsTnI assay (POC-hsTnI) has an 8 min turn-around which may expedite decision-making. Although a single-test low-risk (‘rule-out’) threshold for this assay has been reported,1 it was desirable to determine a threshold specifically for New Zealand ED settings and intended end-users. From 3 November 2022 to 28 May 2023, hsTnI...

Evaluation of Ornidazole Tablets Bioequivalence in Chinese Healthy Participants Under Fasted and Fed Conditions Using Pharmacokinetic Parameters
ConclusionThe bioequivalence and tolerability of ornidazole tablet reference and test formulations were evaluated among healthy Chinese participants under both fasting and fed conditions. The results indicated that both formulations were bioequivalent and generally well tolerated; besides, the interaction between food and drug may affect drug pharmacokinetics.Trial RegistrationCTR20212873, registered on 15 November 2021; ChiCTR2300069098, registered on 7 March 2023. Development of a non-infectious control for viral hemorrhagic fever PCR assays
by Matthew A. Knox, Collette Bromhead, David TS Hayman Assay validation is an essential component of disease surveillance testing, but can be problematic in settings where access to positive control material is limited and a safety risk for handlers. Here we describe a single non-infectious synthetic control that can help develop and validate the PCR based detection of the viral causes of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, Ebola virus disease, Lassa fever, Marburg virus disease and Rift Valley fever. We designed non-infectious synthetic DNA oligonucleotide sequences incorporating primer binding sites suitable for five assay...

Two cases of diquat poisoning in adolescent children
In this report, we compare two similar cases of juvenile diquat poisoning with dynamic changes in clinical manifestations, laboratory values, and imaging results. For the first time, the difference in whether to perform blood flow perfusion and the time difference of initiation of hemoperfusion had a clear clinical difference in the subsequent effects of diquat poisoning in children with diquat poisoning. Limited evidence is available regarding the efficacy of early hemoperfusion for diquat poisoning; however, the differences in clinical outcomes articulated here highlight the benefits of early and timely hemoperfusion the...
