Andragogy in Practice: Applying a Theoretical Framework to Team Science Training in Biomedical Research
This study is the first to apply the theoretical principles of Malcolm Knowles' theory of andragogy to evaluate data collected from learners who participated in team science training workshops in a biomedical research setting. Briefly, andragogy includes six principles: the learner's self-concept, the role of experience, readiness to learn, orientation to learning, the learner's need to know, and intrinsic motivation. Using an embedded study design, the primary focus was on qualitative data, with quantitative data complementing the qualitative findings. The deductive analysis demonstrated that approximately 85% of the qual...

The emerging role of liquid biopsy in oral squamous cell carcinoma detection: advantages and challenges
Expert Rev Mol Diagn. 2024 Apr 12:1-21. doi: 10.1080/14737159.2024.2340997. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC), the sixth most widespread malignancy in the world, accounts for 90% of all cases of oral cancer. The primary risk factors are tobacco chewing, alcohol consumption, viral infection, and genetic modifications. OSCC has a high morbidity rate due to the lack of early diagnostic methods. Nowadays, liquid biopsy plays a vital role in the initial diagnosis of oral cancer. ctNAs extracted from saliva and serum/plasma offer meaningful insights into tumor genetics and dynamics. ...

Synthetic Chemistry in Flow: From Photolysis & amp; Homogeneous Photocatalysis to Heterogeneous Photocatalysis
ChemSusChem. 2024 Apr 12:e202400064. doi: 10.1002/cssc.202400064. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhotocatalytic synthesis of value-added chemicals has gained increasing attention in recent years owing to its versatility in driving many important reactions under ambient conditions. Selective hydrogenation, oxidation, coupling, and halogenation with a high conversion of the reactants have been realized using designed photocatalysts in batch reactors with small volumes at a laboratory scale; however, scaling-up remains a critical challenge due to inefficient utilization of incident light and active sites of the photocatalysts,...

Evaluating prescription of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers in patients with diabetes and albuminuria
CONCLUSION: ACEi/ARB therapy was suboptimal in patients with diabetes, hypertension, and albuminuria. Non-adherence was associated with CKD stage, possibly because of concerns about adverse events and healthcare-related factors.PMID:38606848 | DOI:10.5414/CN111247 (Source: Clinical Nephrology)

Collage of cases and brief review of the laboratory diagnosis and molecular testing in autoimmune haemolytic anaemia
J Family Med Prim Care. 2024 Feb;13(2):409-416. doi: 10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_2131_22. Epub 2024 Mar 6.ABSTRACTAutoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA) is an acquired heterogenous clinical entity with variable presentations like acute haemolysis or mild, chronic haemolysis compounded with acute exacerbation in winters or fatal uncompensated haemolysis. A step-wise approach to the diagnosis and characterisation of AIHA should be undertaken, firstly the diagnosis of haemolysis followed by the establishment of immune nature with the aid of direct agglutination tests (DAT). Simultaneously the other causes of immune haemolysis need to b...
