Causal relationships of Helicobacter pylori and related gastrointestinal diseases on Type 2 diabetes: Univariable and Multivariable Mendelian randomization
ConclusionOur study found that H. pylori IgG antibody, H. pylori GroEL antibody, gastroduodenal ulcer and chronic gastritis are all related to t T2DM, and blood glucose level and obesity mediate the development of H. pylori GroEL antibody and gastroduodenal ulcer on T2DM, respectively. These findings may inform new prevention and intervention strategies for T2DM. (Source: PLoS One)

Biomarker-oriented chemo-immunotherapy for advanced gastric cancer
Int J Clin Oncol. 2024 Apr 22. doi: 10.1007/s10147-024-02525-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe biomarker-oriented chemo-immunotherapy is useful and promising in the development of new anticancer agents, since the responders can be enriched by selecting patients with biomarkers. Compared to colorectal and lung cancers, the development of biomarker-driven molecular-targeted therapeutics for gastric cancers has been straggled. However, several new biomarkers in gastric cancers have been discovered and clinical trials in enrichment design with certain biomarkers have been conducted. Therefore, there are currently several tr...

Family history and gastric cancer incidence and mortality in Asia: a pooled analysis of more than half a million participants
CONCLUSIONS: In this largest prospective study to date on family history and gastric cancer, a familial background of gastric cancer increased the risk of gastric cancer in the Asian population. Targeted education, screening, and intervention in these high-risk groups may reduce the burden of gastric cancer.PMID:38649672 | DOI:10.1007/s10120-024-01499-1 (Source: Cancer Control)

Changing Fate: How EGFRs "Pit" Cell Versus Cell in the Stomach
The mammalian gastric epithelium comprises several major cell types, including mucus-secreting foveolar/pit cells, mucus neck cells, gastric-pumping parietal cells, and digestive enzyme-secreting chief cells.1,2 These cells largely originate from isthmus progenitors within the gastric mucosa (although during homeostasis, chief cells mostly autoduplicate3). The stem cells give rise to mature cells via progenitors known as prepit, preparietal, preneck, and so on. Understanding the differentiation process of parietal cells from preparietal cells is particularly important owing to their role in various gastric diseases, rangin...

Management of malignant Gastric Outlet Obstruction (mGOO) due to pancreatic cancer in the era of EUS-Gastrojejunostomy: an international practice survey and case vignette study by Pancreas 2000 from the European Pancreatic Club
ConclusionsThis survey revealed significant differences in the management of mGOO, depending on specialties, local expertise and treatment volume, suggesting the lack of standardized algorithms. Life expectancy and patients ’ frailty are the main decision drivers. Regarding EUS-GJ, its availability remains suboptimal, with learning curve as the main perceived barrier. Gastritis cystica profunda presenting as an ulcerated lesion
A 57-year-old man was referred to our hospital due to repeated upper abdominal discomfort for more than 1 year. Endoscopy was performed 4 times in the past and gastric cancer was suspected, but biopsy showed inflammation. In our hospital, endoscopy showed a 2.5 cm diameter depressed lesion on the gastric angle (Fig. 1A) and magnifying narrow band imaging observed the central surface structure of the lesion disappeared (Fig. 1B). Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) revealed a 0.8 × 0.7 cm anechoic area in the submucosa (Fig. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)
