Emerging trends in gastrointestinal cancers: Targeting developmental pathways in carcinogenesis and tumor progression
Int Rev Cell Mol Biol. 2024;385:41-99. doi: 10.1016/bs.ircmb.2023.11.006. Epub 2024 Jan 15.ABSTRACTGastrointestinal carcinomas are a group of cancers associated with the digestive system and its accessory organs. The most prevalent cancers related to the gastrointestinal tract are colorectal, gall bladder, gastric, hepatocellular, and esophageal cancers, respectively. Molecular aberrations in different signaling pathways, such as signal transduction systems or developmental pathways are the chief triggering mechanisms in different cancers Though a massive advancement in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions results in i...

Comparison of the Efficacy of 12-day Concomitant Quadruple Therapy versus 14-day High dose Dual Therapy as a First-line < em > H. pylori < /em > Eradication Regimen
CONCLUSIONS: Twelve-day concomitant therapy seems to be an acceptable regimen for first-line H. pylori eradication in Iran, a country with a high rate of antibiotic resistance. Although, high dose dual therapy did not result in an ideal eradication rate, but it had fewer drug side effects than the 12-day concomitant regimen.PMID:38659251 | DOI:10.4166/kjg.2024.012 (Source: Korean J Gastroenter...)

Impact of abdominal compression on heart and stomach motion for stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation
CONCLUSIONS: AC was not a consistent motion management method for STAR, nor does not uniformly affect the separation distance between LVCs and the stomach. If AC is employed in future STAR protocols, the motion of the target volume and its relative distance to the stomach should be compared on two 4DCTs: one while the patient is FB and one under AC.PMID:38661250 | DOI:10.1002/acm2.14346 (Source: Methods of Information in Medicine)

History of chronic gastritis: How our perceptions have changed
World J Gastroenterol. 2024 Apr 7;30(13):1851-1858. doi: 10.3748/wjg.v30.i13.1851.ABSTRACTCurrently, the diagnostic strategy for chronic gastritis (CG) is aimed not just at fixing the presence of gastric mucosal inflammation, but also at gastric cancer (GC) risk stratification in a particular patient. Modern classification approach with the definition of the stage of gastritis determines the need, activities and frequency of dynamic monitoring of a patient. However, this attitude to the patient suffering from CG was far from always. The present publication is a literature review describing the key milestones in the history...

Association between glycemic status and the risk of gastric cancer in pre-and postmenopausal women: A nationwide cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: The risk of gastric cancer escalates with deteriorating glycemic status in a dose-response manner. Diabetes mellitus is linked with an elevated risk of gastric cancer in postmenopausal women.PMID:38663524 | DOI:10.1016/j.annepidem.2024.04.009 (Source: Annals of Epidemiology)

Somatic mutations that affect early genetic progression and immune microenvironment in gastric carcinoma
Pathol Res Pract. 2024 Apr 14;257:155310. doi: 10.1016/j.prp.2024.155310. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGastric carcinoma (GC) is a high heterogeneity and malignant tumor with a poor prognosis. The current implementation of immunotherapy in GC is limited due to the insufficient exploration of immune-related mutations and speculated early mutation events. Therefore, we performed whole-exome sequencing on 40 patients with GC to explore their genetic characteristics, shedding light on the order of genetic events, somatic mutations impacting the immune microenvironment, and potential biomarkers for immunotherapy. Regarding gen...
