Britanin - a beacon of hope against gastrointestinal tumors?
World J Clin Oncol. 2024 Apr 24;15(4):523-530. doi: 10.5306/wjco.v15.i4.523.ABSTRACTBritanin is a bioactive sesquiterpene lactone known for its potent anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. It also exhibits significant anti-tumor activity, suppressing tumor growth in vitro and in vivo. The current body of research on Britanin includes thirty papers predominantly related to neoplasms, the majority of which are gastrointestinal tumors that have not been summarized before. To drive academic debate, the present paper reviews the available research on Britanin in gastrointestinal tumors. It also outlines novel research ...

Exosomal circ50547 as a potential marker and promotor of gastric cancer progression via miR-217/HNF1B axis
CONCLUSION: Exosomal circ50547 may be a promising marker for the diagnosis and prognosis prediction of GC. These findings suggest that it plays an oncogenic role through miR-217/HNF1B signaling pathway in GC.PMID:38692196 | DOI:10.1016/j.tranon.2024.101969 (Source: Translational Oncology)

Chemical and genotoxic characterization of bioaccessible fractions as a comprehensive in vitro tool in assessing the health risk due to dust-bound contaminant ingestion
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 May 1. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33248-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the last two decades, awareness grew on the matter of the impact of environment on human health. Contaminants sorbed onto soil and settled dust can be ingested and thus represent a hazard, particularly to young children, who play on the ground and bring their hands and objects to their mouth. Metal(loid)s and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are of concern as they are both carcinogenic to humans and ubiquitous in outdoor environments. The present study aims to assess the total and bioaccessible fractions of PAHs...

PANoptosis subtypes predict prognosis and immune efficacy in gastric cancer
AbstractPANoptosis is a form of inflammatory programmed cell death that is regulated by the PANoptosome. This PANoptosis possesses key characteristics of pyroptosis, apoptosis, and necroptosis, yet cannot be fully explained by any of these cell death modes. The unique nature of this cell death mechanism has garnered significant interest. However, the specific role of PANoptosis-associated features in gastric cancer (GC) is still uncertain. Patients were categorized into different PAN subtypes based on the expression of genes related to the PANoptosome. We conducted a systematic analysis to investigate the variations in pro...

Laparoscopic Spleen-Preserving Hilar Lymphadenectomy for Advanced Proximal Gastric Cancer
This secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial examines 5-year outcomes of laparoscopic total gastrectomy with laparoscopic spleen-preserving splenic hilar lymphadenectomy vs laparoscopic total gastrectomy for resectable advanced proximal gastric cancer without greater curvature invasion. Station 10 Lymph Nodes in D2 Dissection
The quest to optimize safety and extent of lymph node dissection for gastric cancer (GC) has been a long-standing topic of research and discussion. D2 lymphadenectomy has been largely adopted as the standard in the East and West, traditionally involving dissection of nodal stations 1 to 7, 8a, 9, 10, 11p, 11d, and 12a for total gastrectomy. Dissection of nodal station 10 (No. 10) has been controversial due to its rates of postoperative complications, in part attributed to concomitant splenectomy. Although No. 10 dissection is recommended for tumors invading the greater curvature of the stomach, Japanese guidelines currentl...

Preclinical Characterization of DPI-4452: A 68Ga/177Lu Theranostic Ligand for Carbonic Anhydrase IX
Conclusion: DPI-4452 selectively targets CAIX. [68Ga]Ga-DPI-4452 and [177Lu]Lu-DPI-4452 localized to tumors and were well tolerated in mice. [177Lu]Lu-DPI-4452 demonstrated strong tumor growth inhibition in 2 xenograft mouse models. Thus, the 2 agents potentially provide a theranostic approach for selecting and treating patients with CAIX-expressing tumors such as ccRCC, CRC, and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. The Epstein-Barr virus-miRNA-BART6-5p regulates TGF- β/SMAD4 pathway to induce glycolysis and enhance proliferation and metastasis of gastric cancer cells
CONCLUSION: In this study, we found that EBV-miRNA-BART6-5p can target SMAD4, effectively increasing glycolysis in gastric cancer cells by regulating the TGF-β/SMAD4 signaling pathway, thereby enhancing the proliferation and metastasis of gastric cancer cells. Our findings may offer new insights into the metabolic aspects of gastric cancer.PMID:38686046 | PMC:PMC11055990 | DOI:10.32604/or.2024.046679 (Source: Oncology Research)

Exploring the Antitumor Efficacy of PEGylated Liposomes Loaded with Licorice Extract for Cancer Therapy
CONCLUSION: These results have been corroborated by apoptosis assays, which have demonstrated GA PEG-Lip and Lic PEG-Lip to induce stronger apoptotic effects compared to free GA and Lic on both PC-3 and AGS cells. This study has underscored the potential of encapsulating GA and Lic in PEG-Lip as a promising strategy to augment their anticancer efficacy against prostate and gastric cancers.PMID:38685810 | DOI:10.2174/0115680096292153240416115744 (Source: Current Cancer Drug Targets)
