Successful treatment of concurrent cold agglutinin disease and myelodysplastic syndrome
Herein, we describe a case of severe anemia presenting with myelodysplastic syndrome with cold agglutinin disease that was successfully treated by a moderate dose of steroids followed by cyclosporine. In patients with myelodysplastic syndrome, autoimmunity in erythroid cells is occasionally demonstrated, and autoimmune hemolytic anemia is seen in some patients. However, hemolytic anemia with cold agglutinin in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome is less common, and the effect of corticosteroids for autoimmune hemolytic anemia caused by cold agglutinin is thought to be limited. Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1972: Pharmacological Activities of Lonicerae japonicae flos and Its Derivative & mdash; & ldquo;Chrysoeriol & rdquo; in Skin Diseases
Conclusion: The cutaneous route is the best delivery approach to chrysoeriol across the skin barrier. However, toxicity, dosage, and safety assessments of chrysoeriol in a formulation or nanochrysoeriol on the human epidermis for application in skin diseases must be further investigated. Eosinophilic myocarditis: systematic review
Conclusion EMB is the mainstay for diagnostic testing for EM. CMR is potentially helpful for screening in appropriate clinical scenarios. Regarding treatment, there is no consensus regarding the optimal dosage of corticosteroids. Large clinical trials are warranted to further explore the utility of CMR in the diagnosis of EM and steroid regimen in treating EM. (Source: Heart)

Optic neuritis and mydriasis after vaccination: a case report
ConclusionThis study describes a very unusual case of bilateral ON associated with prolonged mydriasis after vaccination against tetanus and diphtheria that regressed after treatment with oral corticosteroids. Prolonged mydriasis was the manifestation that differed from the other cases previously described. (Source: Journal of Medical Case Reports)

Preoperative Optimization of Crohn's Patients before Abdominopelvic Surgery
Clin Colon Rectal Surg DOI: 10.1055/s-0044-1786380In this article, we review and identify modifiable risk factors associated with postoperative complications of Crohn's disease. We highlight the importance of factors such as nutrition, corticosteroids, immunomodulators, abscesses, ideal timing of surgery, and biologic and small-molecule therapy on surgical outcomes. Herein, we discuss the strategies for attenuating these risk factors. Special consideration is given to venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in this patient population. Intraclass comparison of inhaled corticosteroids for the risk of pneumonia in chronic obstructive pulmonary airway disorder: a network meta-analysis and meta-regression
ConclusionICS class differences in pneumonia risk were observed in terms of pooled effect estimates but it is unlikely that any clinically relevant differences exist. Risk –benefit analysis supports ICS use in moderate-severe COPD. (Source: International Journal of Clinical Pharmacy)

Serious neurological adverse events in immunocompetent children and adolescents caused by viral reactivation in the years following varicella vaccination
Rev Med Virol. 2024 May;34(3):e2538. doi: 10.1002/rmv.2538.ABSTRACTSerious adverse events following vaccination include medical complications that require hospitalisation. The live varicella vaccine that was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in the United States in 1995 has an excellent safety record. Since the vaccine is a live virus, adverse events are more common in immunocompromised children who are vaccinated inadvertently. This review includes only serious adverse events in children considered to be immunocompetent. The serious adverse event called varicella vaccine meningitis was first reported in a hospi...

Treatment of cryptogenic new-onset refractory status epilepticus (C-NORSE) with tocilizumab: A case report
Intern Med. 2024 Apr 23. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.3392-23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 35-year-old woman with no prior history of epilepsy developed status epilepticus (SE), which was highly resistant to multiple antiseizure medications and sedatives. The etiology of SE was not identified despite extensive investigation, and the patient was diagnosed with cryptogenic new-onset refractory status epilepticus (C-NORSE). Although first-line immunotherapies such as high-dose corticosteroids and plasma exchange were ineffective, the patient manifested a resolution of SE after the administration of tocilizumab, which inh...
