Outcome of Human Parainfluenza Virus infection in allogeneic stem cell transplantation recipients: possible impact of ribavirin therapy
ConclusionALC, corticosteroids, and fever increased the risk for progression to LRTD while ribavirin decreased the risk. However, mortality was associated with ALC and co-infections. This study supports further research of ribavirin therapy for hPIV in the allo-HSCT setting. (Source: Infection)

Late Preterm Corticosteroids Exposure and Neurodevelopmental Outcomes
In recent years, there has been a reevaluation of the upper gestational age limit recommended for administration of antenatal corticosteroids. Seven randomized clinical trials (RCTs) published between 2010 and 2022 have evaluated the effects of expanding the limit from 34 to 37 weeks ’ gestation. The largest of these was the Antenatal Late Preterm Steroids (ALPS) trial published in 2016. In this trial, the administration of antenatal corticosteroids yielded a 20% relative reduction in the primary outcome (respiratory morbidity). The absolute reduction in the primary outcome wa s only 2.8% (from 14.4% to 11.65%), and the ...

Neurodevelopmental Outcomes After Late Preterm Corticosteroids
This prospective follow-up study of a randomized clinical trial evaluates whether antenatal corticosteroids administered to birthing parents at risk of late preterm delivery were associated with adverse neurodevelopmental effects on their offspring. A systematic review of randomised controlled trials on topical nasal steroids
CONCLUSIONS: BDP nasal spray is one of the most frequently prescribed INC for rhinitis and rhinosinusitis. Treatment with BDP resulted in significant and clinically meaningful improvements in nasal symptoms associated with AR and CRS. BDP is well tolerated, and the safety profile is similar to that of placebo in most patients. These results, in conjunction with the significant benefit reported in subjects with CRS and AR, provide convincing evidence of the overall effectiveness of BDP for the treatment of the full spectrum of sinonasal disease.PMID:38651550 | DOI:10.14639/0392-100X-N2745 (Source: Acta Otorhinolaryngologica Italica)

Acute Myopic Shift after a Single Dose of Acetazolamide: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
We report the case of a 32-year-old male who presented with an acute myopic shift as a result of uveal effusion following a single administration of 250 mg acetazolamide. The drug was discontinued and following cycloplegia and topical steroid therapy, we observed progressive deepening of the anterior chamber, reopening of the iridocorneal angle, and complete resolution of the myopic shift after 5 days. A literature review since 1956 identified 23 cases, including ours, which developed a myopic shift after a median time of 24 h (3 - 24) following a median dose of 500 mg (125 - 1000) acetazolamide, with about a third complic...
