Investigating the effects of Thymus vulgaris essential oil, Allium cepa extract, and their active compounds (thymol and quercetin) on expression profile of genes related to Alzheimer's disease in PC12 model cell
The objectives of this research were investigating the effects of these compounds on the pathogenesis and progress of Alzheimer's disease in cells modeled by formaldehyde. MTT, flow cytometry, and RT-PCR were used to investigate the toxicity, survival rate and apoptosis of the cells, and the expression level of PP2A, GSK3, NMDAR, BACE1, and APP genes, respectively. Also, the total antioxidant capacity of the modeled cells was measured. The results showed that the two compounds as well as the plants extract and essential oil were able to increase the percentage of cell survival; among them, Thymus vulgaris essential oil had...

Oxidative medicine and cellular longevity the role and mechanism of NCOA4 in ferroptosis induced by intestinal ischemia reperfusion
CONCLUSION: This thesis explored the role of NCOA4 in II/R injury in mice and the mechanism of action. The research results suggest that NCOA4 can mediate ferritinophagy to induce ferroptosis during II/R injury. This experiment reveals the pathological mechanism of II/R injury and provides some scientific basis for the development of drugs for the treatment of II/R injury based on the purpose of alleviating ferroptosis.PMID:38688134 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2024.112155 (Source: International Immunopharmacology)

Expression of human dCTP pyrophosphatase 1 (DCTPP1) and its association with cisplatin resistance characteristics in ovarian cancer
In this study, we aimed to understand the role of DCTPP1 in cancer progression and cisplatin response. Using publicly available databases, we analysed the expression and clinical significance of DCTPP1 in ovarian cancer. Our bioinformatics analysis confirmed that DCTPP1 is significantly overexpressed in ovarian cancer and is closely associated with tumour progression and poor prognosis after cisplatin treatment. We also found that DCTPP1 located in oxidoreductase complex and may be involved in various biological processes related to cisplatin resistance, including pyrimidine nucleotide metabolism, the P53 signalling pathwa...

Anti-viral Effects of Pavetta indica Methanolic Extract and Acyclovir on Behavioral and Biochemical Parameters in Streptozotocin-induced Alzheimer's Disease in Rats
CONCLUSION: In a dose-dependent manner, acyclovir and Pavetta indica methanolic extract treatments abrogated the streptozotocin-induced behavioral and neurological abnormalities in rats. The potential therapeutic effects of PIME and acyclovir administration in intracerebroventricular-streptozotocin-treated rats may be attributed to its potential antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. The current study suggests that Pavetta indica methanolic extract and acyclovir are promising therapeutic targets against Alzheimer's disease.PMID:38685761 | DOI:10.2174/0118715303273145240110100341 (Source: Endocrine, Metaboli...

Concurrent improvement of rice grain yield and abiotic stress tolerance by overexpression of cytokinin activating enzyme LONELY GUY (OsLOG)
Plant Physiol Biochem. 2024 Apr 16;211:108635. doi: 10.1016/j.plaphy.2024.108635. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMeristem activity is important for normal plant growth as well as adaptive plastic development under abiotic stresses. Cytokinin has been recognized to have a major role in regulating meristem function which is controlled by cytokinin activating enzymes by fine-tuning the concentrations and spatial distribution of its bioactive forms. It was previously reported that LONELY GUY (LOG) acts in the direct activation pathway of cytokinin in rice shoot meristems. LOG has a cytokinin specific phosphoribohydrolase activi...

Resveratrol alleviates inorganic arsenic-induced ferroptosis in chicken brain via activation of the Nrf2 signaling pathway
Pestic Biochem Physiol. 2024 May;201:105885. doi: 10.1016/j.pestbp.2024.105885. Epub 2024 Mar 26.ABSTRACTInorganic arsenic (iAs) is a well-recognized environmental pollutant that induces severe brain injury in humans and animals. The antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-ferroptotic effects of resveratrol (Res) were demonstrated in multiple animal experiments. In order to investigate the protective effect of Res on iAs-induced chicken brain injury, the 40 chickens (19-d-old, female) brain injury model was established by oral administration of iAs (30 mg/L NaAsO2) for 6 weeks. All chickens had free access to both food an...

Curr Top Med Chem. 2024 Apr 29. doi: 10.2174/0115680266289292240420062705. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBerbamine (Ber) is an active medicinal bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid, which is usually obtained from different plants of the genus Berberis (family Berberidaceae) and is used to cure various disorders in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic systems of medicine. Numerous in-vitro and in-vivo studies revealed the apoptotic and cytotoxic potential of Ber against different cell lines (SMMC-7721, A549, MDA-MB-231, and K562) by upregulating pro-apoptotic (Bax, p53) and downregulating anti-apoptotic (Bcl-2, survivin) proteins. Cyanidin-3-O-glucoside protects Zearalenone-induced in vitro maturation disorders of porcine oocytes by alleviating NOX4-dependent oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum stress in cumulus cells
In conclusion, C3G promoted in vitro maturation of porcine oocytes exposed to ZEN via mitigating NOX4-dependent oxidative stress and ERS in cumulus cells. These results contribute to our comprehension of the molecular mechanisms underlying the protective effects of C3G against ZEN toxicity in porcine oocytes, and they provide a novel theoretical foundation and strategy for future applications of C3G in the improvement of female reproduction.PMID:38688352 | DOI:10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.142153 (Source: Chemosphere)

Comprehensive physiology and proteomics analysis revealed the molecular toxicological mechanism of Se stress on indica and japonica rice
This study aimed to elucidate the physiological and proteomic molecular responses to Se stress in Oryza sativa. The results showed that under selenium stress, enzymatic activities of catalase, peroxidase, and superoxide dismutase in indica rice decreased by 61%, 28%, and 68%, respectively. The contents of non-enzymatic antioxidant substances ascorbic acid, glutathione, cysteine, proline, anthocyanidin, and flavonoids were decreased by 13%, 39%, 46%, 32%, 20%, and 5%, respectively, which significantly inhibited the antioxidant stress process of plants. At the same time, the results of proteomics analysis showed that rice se...
