Melatonin prevents pulmonary fibrosis caused by PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub > exposure by targeting epithelial-mesenchymal transition
Toxicol Appl Pharmacol. 2024 Apr 28:116949. doi: 10.1016/j.taap.2024.116949. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPulmonary fibrosis is a lung disorder characterized by the accumulation of abnormal extracellular matrix, scar tissue formation, and tissue stiffness. Type II alveolar epithelial cells (AEII) play a critical role in repairing lung tissue after injury, and repeated injury to these cells is a key factor in the development of pulmonary fibrosis. Chronic exposure to PM2.5, a type of air pollution, has been shown to increase the incidence and severity of pulmonary fibrosis by enhancing the activation of EMT in lung epithel...

Cyanidin-3-O-glucoside protects Zearalenone-induced in vitro maturation disorders of porcine oocytes by alleviating NOX4-dependent oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum stress in cumulus cells
In conclusion, C3G promoted in vitro maturation of porcine oocytes exposed to ZEN via mitigating NOX4-dependent oxidative stress and ERS in cumulus cells. These results contribute to our comprehension of the molecular mechanisms underlying the protective effects of C3G against ZEN toxicity in porcine oocytes, and they provide a novel theoretical foundation and strategy for future applications of C3G in the improvement of female reproduction.PMID:38688352 | DOI:10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.142153 (Source: Chemosphere)

Evaluation of Melatonin and its Nanostructures Effects on Skin Disorders Focused on Wound Healing
Mini Rev Med Chem. 2024 Apr 29. doi: 10.2174/0113895575299255240422055203. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSkin is the largest organ of the human body functioning as a great primitive defensive barrier against different harmful environmental factors. However, it is damaged through varying injuries such as different wounds, burns, and skin cancers that cause disruption in internal organs and essential mechanisms of the body through inflammation, oxidation, coagulation problems, infection, etc. Melatonin is the major hormone of the pineal gland that is also effective in skin disorders due to strong antioxidant and anti-inflamm...

Expression of human dCTP pyrophosphatase 1 (DCTPP1) and its association with cisplatin resistance characteristics in ovarian cancer
In this study, we aimed to understand the role of DCTPP1 in cancer progression and cisplatin response. Using publicly available databases, we analysed the expression and clinical significance of DCTPP1 in ovarian cancer. Our bioinformatics analysis confirmed that DCTPP1 is significantly overexpressed in ovarian cancer and is closely associated with tumour progression and poor prognosis after cisplatin treatment. We also found that DCTPP1 located in oxidoreductase complex and may be involved in various biological processes related to cisplatin resistance, including pyrimidine nucleotide metabolism, the P53 signalling pathwa...

Anti-viral Effects of Pavetta indica Methanolic Extract and Acyclovir on Behavioral and Biochemical Parameters in Streptozotocin-induced Alzheimer's Disease in Rats
CONCLUSION: In a dose-dependent manner, acyclovir and Pavetta indica methanolic extract treatments abrogated the streptozotocin-induced behavioral and neurological abnormalities in rats. The potential therapeutic effects of PIME and acyclovir administration in intracerebroventricular-streptozotocin-treated rats may be attributed to its potential antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. The current study suggests that Pavetta indica methanolic extract and acyclovir are promising therapeutic targets against Alzheimer's disease.PMID:38685761 | DOI:10.2174/0118715303273145240110100341 (Source: Endocrine, Metaboli...

Nrf2 expression, mitochondrial fission, and neuronal apoptosis in the prefrontal cortex of methamphetamine abusers and rats
Brain Res. 2024 Apr 27;1837:148973. doi: 10.1016/j.brainres.2024.148973. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMethamphetamine (MA), a representative amphetamine-type stimulant, is one of the most abused drugs worldwide. Studies have shown that MA-induced neurotoxicity is strongly associated with oxidative stress and apoptosis. While nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), an antioxidant transcription factor, is known to exert neuroprotective effects, its role in MA-induced dopaminergic neuronal apoptosis remains incompletely understood. In the present study, we explored the effects of MA on the expression levels of Nrf2, dynam...

Investigating the effects of Thymus vulgaris essential oil, Allium cepa extract, and their active compounds (thymol and quercetin) on expression profile of genes related to Alzheimer's disease in PC12 model cell
The objectives of this research were investigating the effects of these compounds on the pathogenesis and progress of Alzheimer's disease in cells modeled by formaldehyde. MTT, flow cytometry, and RT-PCR were used to investigate the toxicity, survival rate and apoptosis of the cells, and the expression level of PP2A, GSK3, NMDAR, BACE1, and APP genes, respectively. Also, the total antioxidant capacity of the modeled cells was measured. The results showed that the two compounds as well as the plants extract and essential oil were able to increase the percentage of cell survival; among them, Thymus vulgaris essential oil had...

Protective effects of gallic acid against nickel-induced kidney injury: impact of antioxidants and transcription factor on the incidence of nephrotoxicity
This study investigated the mechanism by which gallic acid (GA) protects mice kidneys against renal damage induced by Nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiO-NPs). Forty male Swiss albino mice were randomly assigned into four groups, each consisting of ten mice (n = 10/group): Group I the control group, received no treatment; Group II, the GA group, was administrated GA at a dosage of 110 mg/kg/day body weight; Group III, the NiO-NPs group, received injection of NiO-NPs at a concentration of 20 mg/kg body weight for 10 consecutive days; Group IV, the GA + NiO-NPs group, underwent treatment with both GA and NiO-NPs. The results sho...
