Oncol Res. 2024 Apr 23;32(5):925-931. doi: 10.32604/or.2023.042447. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTTo confirm the relationship between Circ_0003855 and EC, we purchased the Human esophageal carcinoma cell line Eca109 and normal human esophageal epithelial cells HEEC, and the expression levels of Circ_0003855, miR-622, and FLOT1 were detected. The results show that Circ_0003855 and FLOT1 were highly expressed in Eca109 cells, while miR-622 was lowly expressed (p < 0.05). Subsequently, Circ_0003855 small interfering RNA (si-Circ_0003855) and its negative control (si-NC) were used to detect changes in cellular biological behavio...

The Epstein-Barr virus-miRNA-BART6-5p regulates TGF- β/SMAD4 pathway to induce glycolysis and enhance proliferation and metastasis of gastric cancer cells
CONCLUSION: In this study, we found that EBV-miRNA-BART6-5p can target SMAD4, effectively increasing glycolysis in gastric cancer cells by regulating the TGF-β/SMAD4 signaling pathway, thereby enhancing the proliferation and metastasis of gastric cancer cells. Our findings may offer new insights into the metabolic aspects of gastric cancer.PMID:38686046 | PMC:PMC11055990 | DOI:10.32604/or.2024.046679 (Source: Cell Research)

Androgen receptor splice variants drive castration-resistant prostate cancer metastasis by activating distinct transcriptional programs
J Clin Invest. 2024 Apr 30:e168649. doi: 10.1172/JCI168649. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOne critical mechanism through which prostate cancer (PCa) adapts to treatments targeting androgen receptor (AR) signaling is the emergence of ligand-binding domain-truncated and constitutively active AR splice variants, particularly AR-V7. While AR-V7 has been intensively studied, its ability to activate distinct biological functions compared to the full-length AR (AR-FL), and its role in regulating the metastatic progression of castration-resistant PCa (CRPC), remains unclear. Our study found that, under castrated conditions, AR-V7 ...

Dexmedetomidine hydrochloride plus sufentanil citrate inhibits glucose metabolism and epithelial ‑mesenchymal transition in human esophageal squamous carcinoma KYSE30 cells by modulating the JAK/STAT3/HIF‑1α axis
Oncol Lett. 2024 Apr 18;27(6):273. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14406. eCollection 2024 Jun.ABSTRACTDexmedetomidine hydrochloride (DEX-HCl) and sufentanil citrate (SFC) are commonly used anesthetic drugs for esophageal cancer (EC) surgery. The present study was performed to investigate the effect of DEX-HCl and SFC treatment on glucose metabolism and epithelial-mesenchymal transition in EC. Cell counting kit-8 (CCK8), clonogenic, wound healing and Transwell migration assays were performed to assess the effects of the DEX-HCl and SFC on KYSE30 cell proliferation, invasion and migration. Changes in lactate and glucose levels in KYSE...

AXL receptor as an emerging molecular target in colorectal cancer
Drug Discov Today. 2024 Apr 27:104005. doi: 10.1016/j.drudis.2024.104005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAXL receptor tyrosine kinase (AXL) is a receptor tyrosine kinase whose aberrant expression has recently been associated with colorectal cancer (CRC), contributing to tumor growth, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), increased invasiveness, metastatic spreading, and the development of drug resistance. In this review we summarize preclinical data, the majority of which are limited to recent years, convincingly linking the AXL receptor to CRC. These findings support the value of targeting AXL with molecules in drug dis...

Structural clarification of mannoglucan GSBP-2 from Ganoderma sinense and its effects on triple-negative breast cancer migration and invasion
In conclusion, GSBP-2 could inhibit the proliferation, migration, and invasion of MDA-MB-231 cells and showed significant anti-angiogenic ability. These findings indicate that GSBP-2 is a promising therapeutic adjuvant for TNBC.PMID:38688342 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131903 (Source: International Journal of Biological Macromolecules)

The role of anoctamin 1 in liver disease
J Cell Mol Med. 2024 May;28(9):e18320. doi: 10.1111/jcmm.18320.ABSTRACTLiver diseases include all types of viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease (ALD), nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), cirrhosis, liver failure (LF) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Liver disease is now one of the leading causes of disease and death worldwide, which compels us to better understand the mechanisms involved in the development of liver diseases. Anoctamin 1 (ANO1), a calcium-activated chloride channel (CaCC), plays an important role in epithelial cell secretion, proliferation and migration. ANO1 plays a key role in transcriptional...

Overexpressed KCNK1 regulates potassium channels affecting molecular mechanisms and biological pathways in bladder cancer
CONCLUSIONS: KCNK1 was significantly overexpressed in BC. A complex and sophisticated three-dimensional spatial transcriptional regulatory network existed in the KCNK1 TSS and promoted the upregulated of KCNK1 expression. The high expression of KCNK1 might be involved in the cell cycle, cellular metabolism, and tumour microenvironment through the regulation of potassium channels, and ultimately contributed to the deterioration of BC.PMID:38689322 | DOI:10.1186/s40001-024-01844-1 (Source: Cell Research)

Local therapy combined with anti-PD-1 immunotherapy for advanced lung adenocarcinoma: A case report
J Cancer Res Ther. 2024 Apr 1;20(2):739-744. doi: 10.4103/jcrt.jcrt_1600_23. Epub 2024 Apr 30.ABSTRACTLung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) encompasses all lung epithelial cancers except small-cell lung cancer. Although programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitors, such as pembrolizumab, and other Food and Drug Administration-approved immune checkpoint inhibitors, offer new hope for LUAD treatment, LUAD's overall efficacy remains limited. Thus, the combination of immunotherapy with other therapeutic approaches has gained widespread attention. Local therapy is an optimal method for treating many advanced unresectable lung cancers...
