High-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer during Pregnancy: From Diagnosis to Treatment
CONCLUSIONS: There have not been long-term follow-ups of patients' oncologic and obstetric outcomes. As patients should be comprehensively informed, more detailed case reports or series with longer follow-up periods are needed.PMID:38668047 | PMC:PMC11048790 | DOI:10.3390/curroncol31040144 (Source: Current Oncology)

Modulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition by gemcitabine: Targeting ionizing radiation-induced cellular senescence in lung cancer cell
This study investigates the effects of ionizing radiation and gemcitabine on lung cancer cells, with a focus on induced senescence, EMT, and apoptosis. Human-derived A549, PC-9, and mouse-derived Lewis lung carcinoma cells exposed to 10 Gy X-ray irradiation exhibited senescence, as indicated by morphological changes, β-galactosidase staining, and cell cycle arrest through the p53-p21 pathway. Ionizing radiation also promoted EMT via TGFβ/SMAD signaling, evidenced by increased TGFβ1 levels, altered EMT marker expressions, and enhanced cell migration. Gemcitabine, a first-line lung cancer treatment, was shown to enhance a...

Association between < em > KRAS < /em > and < em > PIK3CA < /em > Mutations and Progesterone Resistance in Endometriotic Epithelial Cell Line
In this study, we investigated the effects of these mutations on progesterone resistance. Since the HMOsisEC10 had suppressed progesterone receptor (PR) expression, we transduced PR-B to HMOsisEc10 cell lines including KRAS mutant and PIK3CA mutant cell lines. We conducted a migration assay, invasion assay, and MTT assay using dienogest and medroxyprogestrone acetate. All cell lines showed progesterone sensitivity with or without mutations. Regarding inflammatory factors, real-time quantitative RT-PCR revealed that the KRAS mutation cell line exhibited no suppression of Cox-2 and mPGES-1 on progesterone treatment, whereas ...

Challenges in Defining a Reference Set of Differentially Expressed lncRNAs in Ulcerative Colitis by Meta-Analysis
Curr Issues Mol Biol. 2024 Apr 5;46(4):3164-3174. doi: 10.3390/cimb46040198.ABSTRACTThe study aimed to identify common differentially expressed lncRNAs from manually curated ulcerative colitis (UC) gene expression omnibus (GEO) datasets. Nine UC transcriptomic datasets of clearly annotated human colonic biopsies were included in the study. The datasets were manually curated to select active UC samples and controls. R packages geneknitR, gprofiler, clusterProfiler were used for gene symbol annotation. The R EdgeR package was used to analyze differential expression. This resulted in a total of nineteen lncRNAs that were diff...

Frankincense ( < em > Boswellia serrata < /em > ) Extract Effects on Growth and Biofilm Formation of < em > Porphyromonas gingivalis < /em > , and Its Intracellular Infection in Human Gingival Epithelial Cells
Curr Issues Mol Biol. 2024 Mar 30;46(4):2991-3004. doi: 10.3390/cimb46040187.ABSTRACTFrankincense is produced by Boswellia trees, which can be found throughout the Middle East and parts of Africa and Asia. Boswellia serrata extract has been shown to have anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects. Periodontitis is an oral chronic inflammatory disease that affects nearly half of the US population. We investigated the antimicrobial effects of B. serrata extract on two oral pathogens associated with periodontitis. Using the minimum inhibitory concentration and crystal violet staining methods, we demonstrated th...

The effectiveness of CA125 and HE4 as clinical prognostic markers in epithelial ovarian cancer patients with BRCA mutation
CONCLUSION: Normalizing both biomarkers emerged as the most effective predictive marker for the 1-year recurrence rate, regardless of BRCA mutational status. A negative HE4 value can be a useful predictor for 1-year recurrence-free survival in patients with BRCA mutations.PMID:38670560 | DOI:10.3802/jgo.2024.35.e80 (Source: Journal of Gynecologic Oncology)

Tropomyosin 2 Regulates Tumor Cell Proliferation, Immune Suppression, and Activation of the JNK Signaling Pathway in Colitis-Associated Cancer (CAC)
CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrated that TPM2 knockdown suppressed the proliferation of CAC IECs, enhanced immune suppression on CAC IECs, and inhibited the JNK signaling pathway within the framework of CAC. These findings suggest TPM2 can serve as a potential therapeutic target for CAC treatment.PMID:38665026 | DOI:10.24976/Discov.Med.202436183.73 (Source: Discovery Medicine)

Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transformation Promotes the Progression of Hepatocellular Carcinoma through NF- κB/MMP9 Axis
CONCLUSIONS: The NF-κB/MMP9 signaling axis serves as a pivotal regulator that fosters proliferation and impedes apoptosis in Huh7 cells by modulating the process of EMT.PMID:38665016 | DOI:10.24976/Discov.Med.202436183.63 (Source: Discovery Medicine)
