Calcium It is well known that a loss of bone mass can accelerate as a result of the menopause. An increase in calcium intake during the menopause is therefore highly recommended for bone health. From the age of 50 onwards an adequate intake of 1,000 milligrams per day to 1,200mg is usually recommended. Foods rich in calcium include dairy products like cheese, yogurt and milk, (the lower fat varieties) and tinned fish such as sardines and salmon.
