Seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii and Associated Risk Factors among Pregnant Women in Algeria
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2024 Apr 30:tpmd230187. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0187. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTToxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular protozoan parasite affecting all warm-blooded vertebrates, including humans. Infections in humans can lead to severe clinical manifestations in pregnant women and immunocompromised patients. The aim of the present study was to assess seroprevalence of T. gondii infection and to identify the associated risk factors among pregnant women from southern Algeria. A cross-sectional study was conducted from March 2021 to May 2022 among 1,345 pregnant women. A structured questionnaire w...

Age group-specific changes in keratinocyte cancer treatment rates in Australia, 2012- 2021: a retrospective cohort study based on MBS claims data
CONCLUSIONS: Rates of MBS-subsidised treatment for keratinocyte cancers increased during 2012-2019, but BCC/SCC treatment rates declined among younger Australians, who have probably been exposed to less sunlight than earlier generations because of public health interventions and population-wide lifestyle changes related to technology use.PMID:38685827 | DOI:10.5694/mja2.52293 (Source: Medical Journal of Australia)

Underweight in young Japanese women over time: a longitudinal retrospective study of the change in body mass index from ages 6 to 20 years
CONCLUSION: Young Japanese women with underweight have at least two characteristics of BMI SDS trajectory: being constitutionally underweight and shifting their weight status from baseline towards underweight in their late teens.PMID:38685666 | DOI:10.1080/03014460.2024.2345393 (Source: Annals of Human Biology)

Feasibility and Satisfaction With the Word Catheter in Treatment of Bartholin's Cyst and Abscess
CONCLUSION: The Word catheter was frequently well tolerated for the treatment of Bartholin's cysts and abscesses, with few non-serious side-effects, however, it did interfere with sexual health. Nonetheless, it may not be possible to make general recommendations based on this exploratory study.PMID:38688643 | DOI:10.21873/invivo.13568 (Source: Pain Physician)

Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGenus Phoenix is one of the most common genera in the palm family (Arecaceae) with 17 species distributed around the world. Phoenix spp. have been used for centuries as food and medicine by different cultures. Phoenix dactylifera L. (date palm) is the utmost significant, particularly in the Middle East and Arab World. This review displays the main phytochemical constituents of P. dactylifera and describes its impact on women's health from menarche to menopause, effects on fertility and during certain health conditions. The long non-coding RPPH1 is decreased in leukocytes and increased in plasma from women developing pre-eclampsia
In conclusion, RPPH1 expression in leukocytes was significantly decreased in women with pre-eclampsia, and the expression at 22-24 weeks associated with the subsequent development of pre-eclampsia. RPPH1 in leukocytes may be a useful biomarker for prediction and/or early detection of pre-eclampsia and an unknown regulator of the signaling affecting immune cells.PMID:38685609 | DOI:10.1093/biolre/ioae069 (Source: Reproductive Biology)

Is Scotland Walking in the Right Direction? A Cross-Sectional Analysis of Trends in Walking by Socioeconomic Status
CONCLUSIONS: Scotland appears to be walking in the right direction. Surveillance data support a positive trend after decades of policy and promotion efforts. The policies do not appear to be exacerbating existing inequalities, but narrowing them will require more concentrated efforts.PMID:38688465 | DOI:10.1123/jpah.2023-0635 (Source: Health Physics)

One size does not fit all: Perspectives from Swedish midwives on fetal movement counselling
CONCLUSION: To reduce health inequities for migrant women, this study highlights the need for more flexible guidelines within the standard antenatal care programme. These guidelines should prioritise the individual woman's needs over institutional protocols, acknowledge the midwife-woman relationship as the core of midwifery practice and support midwives to build a partnership with women through continuity of care.PMID:38688145 | DOI:10.1016/j.wombi.2024.101621 (Source: Women Birth)

Emerging trends in research on perineal trauma management: A bibliometric analysis of articles published since 1985
CONCLUSION: There is a growing global interest in the research on postnatal perineal trauma with authors from the UK playing a leading role so far. Countries with high vaginal birth rates, need to promote research in this field to minimise trauma-associated comorbidities.PMID:38688049 | DOI:10.1016/j.midw.2024.104003 (Source: Midwifery)

Clinicopathological Pattern of Endometrial Specimens in Women with Abnormal Uterine Bleeding and Ultrasonography Correlation
CONCLUSION: Endometrial sampling is a useful tool for evaluation of women with AUB and referring patients for treatment. Histopathological evaluation of the endometrium is very useful in detecting the etiology of AUB. Transvaginal sonography has high sensitivity in detecting polyps.PMID:38685848 | DOI:10.34172/aim.2024.31 (Source: Archives of Iranian Medicine)

Colorectal Cancer Incidence in Iran Based on Sex, Age, and Geographical Regions: A Study of 2014-2017 and Projected Rates to 2025
CONCLUSION: The anticipated increase in CRC incidence in Iran emphasizes the need for additional studies to better identify risk factors. Furthermore, implementing screening programs is recommended for individuals at a higher risk of CRC, including men, the elderly population, and those residing in regions with a notable prevalence of CRC.PMID:38685843 | DOI:10.34172/aim.2024.26 (Source: Archives of Iranian Medicine)

Associations between short-term exposure to air pollution and thyroid function in a representative sample of the Korean population
CONCLUSIONS: As the subtle changes in thyroid function can affect various organ systems, the present results may have substantial public health implications despite the relatively modest effect sizes. Because this was a cross-sectional study, it is necessary to conduct further experimental or repeated-measures studies to consolidate the current results.PMID:38685294 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2024.119018 (Source: Environmental Research)

Evaluation of the Efficacy and Safety of Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate in Intercepting Mother-to-Child Transmission of Hepatitis B Virus
This study assessed the effects of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) in pregnant women for mother-to-infant transmission of HBV. A total of 122 pregnant women at our hospital met the inclusion criteria for high HBV DNA viral loads. They were randomly divided into TDF-treatment (n=70) and placebo (n=52) groups. Maternal liver function and serum HBV DNA load were tested before and after treatment. Clinical and laboratory data of infants were assayed at delivery and 7-months post-partum visit and compared between the two groups. There was no difference in clinical characteristics of participants between the two groups. Ther...
