The Nutri-Score nutrition label: Associations between the underlying nutritional profile of foods and lipoprotein particle subclass profiles in adults
CONCLUSIONS: A higher FSAm-NPS score is associated with a less favourable lipoprotein particle subclass profile in middle-to older-aged adults which may be a potential mechanism underlying reported health benefits of a healthy diet according to Nutri-Score rating.PMID:38692976 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2024.117559 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Association of healthy diet score and adiposity with risk of colorectal cancer: findings from the UK Biobank prospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: Adiposity-mediated effects were limited in the link between dietary patterns and CRC incidence, implying that solely addressing adiposity may not sufficiently reduce CRC risk. Interventions, such as improving dietary quality in people with adiposity or promoting weight control in those with unhealthy eating habits, may provide an effective strategy to reduce CRC risk.PMID:38693451 | DOI:10.1007/s00394-024-03418-7 (Source: Cancer Control)

Safety and immunogenicity of a polyvalent DNA-protein HIV vaccine with matched Env immunogens delivered as a prime-boost regimen or coadministered in HIV-uninfected adults in the USA (HVTN 124): a phase 1, placebo-controlled, double-blind randomised controlled trial
Lancet HIV. 2024 May;11(5):e285-e299. doi: 10.1016/S2352-3018(24)00036-5.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: An effective HIV vaccine will most likely need to have potent immunogenicity and broad cross-subtype coverage. The aim of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) 124 was to evaluate safety and immunogenicity of a unique polyvalent DNA-protein HIV vaccine with matching envelope (Env) immunogens.METHODS: HVTN 124 was a randomised, phase 1, placebo-controlled, double-blind study, including participants who were HIV seronegative and aged 18-50 years at low risk for infection. The DNA vaccine comprised five plasmids: four copies expressin...

Bichectomy Surgery and EMG Masticatory Muscles Function in Adult Women: A Longitudinal Study
CONCLUSION: Bichectomy surgery did not modify the electromyographic activity of the masseter and temporal muscles during the rest task but may have influenced variations in the electromyographic signal during different mandibular tasks after 60 days of surgery, suggesting compensatory adaptations and functional recovery.CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Understanding the impact of buccal fat removal surgery on the stomatognathic system function provides insights into postoperative functional recovery and potential compensatory adaptations, guiding clinical management and rehabilitation strategies for patients undergoing such procedur...

The Correlates of Collective and Individual Trauma on Mental Health Outcomes Among Afghan Refugees: A Study of Sociodemographic Differences
This study sought to explore the relationship between collective trauma and mental health outcomes within the Afghan refugee population in the United States, paying particular attention to the influence of sociodemographic factors. Identifying subgroups at greater risk allows for the development of more targeted mental health interventions. The study surveyed 173 Afghan refugees employing snowball sampling, utilizing a cross-sectional design. Data collection was facilitated through online and in-person surveys in English, Dari, and Pashto. Key measures included the Harvard Trauma Questionnaire for individual trauma experie...

Comparing the Efficacy of Two Cognitive Screening Tools in Identifying Gray and White Matter Brain Damage among Older Adults
CONCLUSIONS: The MMSE and MoCA screening tools effectively identified gray and white matter brain damage in older adults with varying degrees of cognitive impairment. Lower MMSE scores are associated with MTL atrophy and lesions, and lower MoCA scores are related to PWM lesions. The concurrent use of MMSE and MoCA is recommended for assessing structural changes in distinct brain regions.PMID:38690079 | PMC:PMC11060871 | DOI:10.1155/2024/5527225 (Source: Journal of Aging Research)

"Health challenges and midwifery support for new mothers after childbirth: A cross-sectional study in Sweden"
CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATION FOR PRACTICE: It is notable that 16 % of new mothers seek emergency care in the first weeks after childbirth. This study has practical implications for midwifery practice and policy. There is a need for tailored postnatal support strategies so that midwives potentially are able to mitigate emergency department visits. Further studies should look at whether the high number of emergency visits among new mothers varies throughout Sweden, and whether this may be a result of reduced time of hospital stay after childbirth or other factors.PMID:38692249 | DOI:10.1016/j.midw.2024.104020 (Source: Midwifery)

pDNA-tachyplesin treatment stimulates the immune system and increases the probability of apoptosis in MC4-L2 tumor cells
Amino Acids. 2024 May 1;56(1):34. doi: 10.1007/s00726-024-03393-7.ABSTRACTBreast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, and marine creatures are the most abundant reservoir of anticancer medicines. Tachyplesin peptides have shown antibacterial capabilities, but their potential to inhibit cancer growth and trigger cancer cell death has not been investigated. A synthetic tachyplesin nucleotide sequence was generated and inserted into the pcDNA3.1( +) Mammalian Expression Vector. PCR analysis and enzyme digesting procedures were used to evaluate the vectors' accuracy. The transfection efficiency of MCF-7 and ...

Expression and clinical significance of short-chain fatty acids in patients with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy
CONCLUSION: Compared with the NP group, significant alterations were observed in the SCFAs of maternal serum and cord blood in the ICP group, although they displayed distinct patterns of change. Furthermore, the SCFA levels in maternal serum and cord blood were significantly positively correlated. Notably, certain maternal serum SCFAs, specifically caproic and acetic acids, demonstrated excellent diagnostic efficiency for ICP.PMID:38689740 | PMC:PMC11056904 | DOI:10.4254/wjh.v16.i4.601 (Source: World Journal of Hepatology)

Streptococcus salivarius ameliorates the destructive effect on the epithelial barrier by inhibiting the growth of Prevotella melaninogenica via metabolic acid production
ConclusionsThese results suggest that liveS. salivarius or its cell-free supernatant significantly ameliorated the disruption of epithelial tight junctions induced byP. melaninogenica, likely through the inhibition ofP. melaninogenica growth mediated by metabolic acid production. Evaluating the development of endometriosis and adenomyosis lesions over time: An ultrasound study of symptomatic women
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that in symptomatic women, endometriosis and adenomyosis lesions visible at ultrasound may develop over time. However, majority of women remain having normal ultrasound examinations despite symptoms. Exacerbation of dysmenorrhea or chronic pelvic pain during follow-up was not associated with the development of endometriosis or adenomyosis lesions visible at ultrasound, suggesting that even women with less severe symptoms might benefit from a follow-up ultrasound when indicated.
