The long non-coding RPPH1 is decreased in leukocytes and increased in plasma from women developing pre-eclampsia
In conclusion, RPPH1 expression in leukocytes was significantly decreased in women with pre-eclampsia, and the expression at 22-24 weeks associated with the subsequent development of pre-eclampsia. RPPH1 in leukocytes may be a useful biomarker for prediction and/or early detection of pre-eclampsia and an unknown regulator of the signaling affecting immune cells.PMID:38685609 | DOI:10.1093/biolre/ioae069 (Source: Biology of Reproduction)

Associations between short-term exposure to air pollution and thyroid function in a representative sample of the Korean population
CONCLUSIONS: As the subtle changes in thyroid function can affect various organ systems, the present results may have substantial public health implications despite the relatively modest effect sizes. Because this was a cross-sectional study, it is necessary to conduct further experimental or repeated-measures studies to consolidate the current results.PMID:38685294 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2024.119018 (Source: Environmental Research)

The Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention of Recurrent Urinary Tract Infection
CONCLUSION: rUTI poses a challenge for the treating physician. The measures to be taken must be considered on an individual basis. Vulnerable groups, such as older patients, need special attention.PMID:38686602 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2024.0068 (Source: Deutsches Arzteblatt International)

Evaluation of the Efficacy and Safety of Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate in Intercepting Mother-to-Child Transmission of Hepatitis B Virus
This study assessed the effects of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) in pregnant women for mother-to-infant transmission of HBV. A total of 122 pregnant women at our hospital met the inclusion criteria for high HBV DNA viral loads. They were randomly divided into TDF-treatment (n=70) and placebo (n=52) groups. Maternal liver function and serum HBV DNA load were tested before and after treatment. Clinical and laboratory data of infants were assayed at delivery and 7-months post-partum visit and compared between the two groups. There was no difference in clinical characteristics of participants between the two groups. Ther...

Seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii and Associated Risk Factors among Pregnant Women in Algeria
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2024 Apr 30:tpmd230187. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0187. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTToxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular protozoan parasite affecting all warm-blooded vertebrates, including humans. Infections in humans can lead to severe clinical manifestations in pregnant women and immunocompromised patients. The aim of the present study was to assess seroprevalence of T. gondii infection and to identify the associated risk factors among pregnant women from southern Algeria. A cross-sectional study was conducted from March 2021 to May 2022 among 1,345 pregnant women. A structured questionnaire w...

Zibotentan Can Be Co-administered with Contraceptives Containing Ethinyl Estradiol and Levonorgestrel: A Pharmacokinetic Drug-Drug Interaction Study
In conclusion, contraception containing ethinyl estradiol/levonorgestrel is regarded possible under zibotentan-containing treatments. This expands choices for women of childbearing potential, supporting diversity in the ZENITH High Proteinuria trial.PMID:38686600 | DOI:10.1002/cpt.3280 (Source: Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics)

Basal Hyperglycemia Contributes More Than Fifty Percent to Time in Range in Pregnant Women with Type 1 Diabetes
CONCLUSIONS: Basal hyperglycemia was the major contributor to TIR during pregnancy. Along with controlling the postprandial hyperglycemia, pregnant women with T1DM who did not reach the target of TIR may benefit more from the optimization of insulin regimens focusing on reducing basal glucose.PMID:38686666 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae291 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Psychometric Evaluation of the Family Willingness for Caregiving Scale
CONCLUSIONS: Further testing of the FWCS is needed. After refinement, the FWCS could be used to evaluate factors contributing to caregiving willingness of family members of ICU patients and advance the science related to family engagement in the ICU. Additionally, it could be used as a practical tool to suggest family caregiving activities in the ICU.PMID:38688853 | DOI:10.4037/ajcc2024809 (Source: American Journal of Critical Care)

Age group-specific changes in keratinocyte cancer treatment rates in Australia, 2012- 2021: a retrospective cohort study based on MBS claims data
CONCLUSIONS: Rates of MBS-subsidised treatment for keratinocyte cancers increased during 2012-2019, but BCC/SCC treatment rates declined among younger Australians, who have probably been exposed to less sunlight than earlier generations because of public health interventions and population-wide lifestyle changes related to technology use.PMID:38685827 | DOI:10.5694/mja2.52293 (Source: Med J Aust)
