Role of telemedicine- versus outpatient-based initiation and management of Atkins diet therapy in middle aged women with drug-resistant Parkinson's disease during the COVID-19 pandemic
Background: To explore the satisfaction, effectiveness, and safety of online modified Atkins diet (MAD) initiation and follow-up by comparing a group of work from home middle aged women with drug-resistant Parkinson's disease (PD) that was managed by telemedicine using Telegram App as the main tool and compared to a group that was treated on an outpatient basis. Gender Disparities in Parkinson's Disease: Exploring Quality of Life Among Mexican Men and Women (2011-2019)
Background: Gender disparities in PD extend across various dimensions, impacting epidemiological and clinical aspects in men and women[1]. Females generally exhibit lower non-motor scores, while males experience more decline in motor symptoms[2]. Despite these observations, a persistent gender gap in PD underscores the need for further research to ensure equitable healthcare for both men and women living with PD (PwP). We aimed to systematically analyze and compare sociodemographic factors, motor and non-motor scales, and their collective influence on the quality of life (QoL) in Mexican PwP, focusing on elucidating gender...

Multidimensional factors can affect the sexual health of women living with Parkinson's disease
Background: Sexual dysfunction (SD) is a common non-motor symptom (NMS) in people with Parkinson ’s disease (PwPD). Sexual health (SH) depends on several biological, mental, and social factors that PD may affect. Despite its prevalence and relevance for quality of life, SD in women with Parkinson's disease (WwPD) is poorly understood, and research in this area is scarce. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the impact of motor, non-motor, and social aspects on the SH of WwPD. (Source: Parkinsonism and Related Disorders)

Evolution in Functionality of People with Parkinson's Disease: Gender Influence
Background: Parkinson ’s Disease (PD) is characterized by a deficiency in striatal dopamine production, leading to both motor and non-motor symptoms. The difference in PD progression between women and men is not well-established in the literature; however, women typically experience later onset than men, who show highe r incidence and prevalence of the disease. Cancer Risk in Graves Disease with Radioactive 131I Treatment: A Nationwide Cohort Study
Conclusion: This study identified that the overall cancer risk in patients with GD who received RAI therapy compared with those who did not was not significant in Korea. Further long-term studies are needed to determine the risks and advantages of RAI therapy in patients with GD. (Source: Journal of Nuclear Medicine)

Psychometric Evaluation of the Family Willingness for Caregiving Scale
CONCLUSIONS: Further testing of the FWCS is needed. After refinement, the FWCS could be used to evaluate factors contributing to caregiving willingness of family members of ICU patients and advance the science related to family engagement in the ICU. Additionally, it could be used as a practical tool to suggest family caregiving activities in the ICU.PMID:38688853 | DOI:10.4037/ajcc2024809 (Source: American Journal of Critical Care)

Seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii and Associated Risk Factors among Pregnant Women in Algeria
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2024 Apr 30:tpmd230187. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0187. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTToxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular protozoan parasite affecting all warm-blooded vertebrates, including humans. Infections in humans can lead to severe clinical manifestations in pregnant women and immunocompromised patients. The aim of the present study was to assess seroprevalence of T. gondii infection and to identify the associated risk factors among pregnant women from southern Algeria. A cross-sectional study was conducted from March 2021 to May 2022 among 1,345 pregnant women. A structured questionnaire w...

Metochalcone induces senescence-associated secretory phenotype via JAK2/STAT3 pathway in breast cancer
In this study, we found that TEC inhibited cell proliferation of breast cancer BT549 cells and lung cancer A549 cells in a concentration-dependent manner. TEC induced cell cycle arrest in the S-phase, cell migration inhibition in vitro, and reduced tumor growth in vivo. Moreover, transcriptomic analysis revealed that TEC modulated the activity of the JAK2/STAT3 and P53 pathways. TEC triggered the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) by repressing the JAK2/STAT3 axis. The mechanism of metochalcone against breast cancer depended on the induction of SASP via deactivation of the JAK2/STAT3 pathway, highlighting the...
