A Holistic Intervention for Oral Lichen Planus.
Abstract Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic immune-mediated, inflammatory, and psychosomatic condition that frequently affects the oral mucosa in a typical bilateral pattern, often noticed in middle-aged females.1 It involves the buccal, lingual, and/or gingival mucosa and is also an oral potentially malignant disorder (OPMD). OLP is associated with etiological factors ranging from viruses like hepatitis C, systemic factors like thyroid disorders,2 local factors like dental plaque, calculus and cuspal trauma, to deep rooted, often underestimated, psychological triggers. OLP is routinely encountered in oral medi...

Prevalence of a Second Root and Canal in Mandibular and Maxillary Canines in a Saudi Arabian Population: A Cone-beam Computed Tomography Study.
CONCLUSION: One root, one canal, and Vertucci's type I are the primary and typical characteristics of mandibular and maxillary canines. The presence of a second root in mandibular canines is small, although the presence of two canals is not unusual. Conversely, it is rare to find a second root and canal in maxillary canines. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Mandibular canines showed bilateral asymmetry (8.9%) in the number of canals between the right and left sides, which could be of clinical importance when planning root canal treatment (RCT) on contralateral canines. 3D Finite Element Analysis to Assess the Stress Distribution Pattern in Mandibular Implant-supported Overdenture with Different Bar Heights.
CONCLUSION: As the vertical cantilever increases (here the bar height), the maximum stress on the crestal bone increases. A minimum of 0.5 mm of space is sufficient between the mucosa and the inferior border of the bar to maintain oral hygiene. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: From the present study, it can be concluded that an increase in bar height causes an increase in stress levels on the peri-implant crestal bone. Treatment Decision-making of Cracked Teeth: Survey of American Endodontists.
CONCLUSION: It appears that the presence of a 6-mm periodontal pocket is considered an important factor by most American endodontists when deciding whether to preserve the cracked tooth or extract it. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: There is no consensus among dentists regarding the best approach to treat cracked teeth. Conclusive studies evaluating clinical approaches of endodontists regarding treatment of cracked teeth are lacking. Therefore, surveyed opinion of endodontists in the United States regarding their approach to treatment of cracked teeth was done to try to reach the best clinical decision regarding this dilemma. ...

CBCT Performance and Endodontic Sealer Influence in the Diagnosis of Vertical Root Fractures.
CONCLUSION: It may be concluded that endodontic sealers do not influence the detection of VRF. The PreXion device was the most accurate, having the highest specificity value. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Radiopaque materials might affect the diagnosis of VRFs because they can simulate fracture lines, leading to false-positive results. Moreover, CBCT machines present different specificities that could exert some influence on that. PMID: 31316016 [PubMed - in process] (Source: J Contemp Dent Pract)
